SFA can't get the sweep, but still got the series.

Jacks were up 2-0 going into the bottom of the 4th before the Islanders poured it on with 7 unanswered runs through three innings.

Dylan Mulcahy goes 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits 4 K's with 3 walks. (so close to calling the 4's)

Julian Swift goes 2-5 with a RBI, Cermodrick Bland 2-3 (1 triple), and Jhett Creel 1-5 with a RBI.

Back in action on Wed. in San Marcos for a non-conference games against the Bobcats of Texas State before a big 3-game series against UTRGV in the Nac.

SFA (18-15) vs. Texas State (22-10)

WHERE: San Marcos, Texas (Irvine-Rasmussen Park)
WHEN: April 8; 6:00 P.M.
TV: ESPN+

The Bobcats are 16-4 at home this season and have wins over Gonzaga, UTSA, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Washington State, #25 Louisiana, UTRGV, and are just coming off a victory over #18 Texas A&M.

Texas State leads the all time series 46-21 having won the last 3 meetings and 7 of the last 10.

TSU's starting lineup is batting almost .300 highlighted by soon to be Bobcat legend Chase Mora who became the all-time leader in HR's at Texas State with 37. As a whole the line up has a total of 57 home runs on the season (65 on the entire team). Easy to say this is a slugger lineup (.588).

The team has also recorded 61 doubles and 12 triples with a team OPS of .951

Look for pitch by committee in tonights game as each bullpen should get a good workout in this one.

SFA 18-16; 9-6 vs. UTRGV 14-18; 9-9

WHERE: Nacogdoches, Texas (Pilgrim's Park)
WHEN: Apr. 10; 6:00 PM/Apr. 11; 6:00 PM /Apr. 12; 1:00 PM
TV: ESPN+

SFA leads the all-time series 21-19, but UTRGV has dominated since 2022, having won the last 5 meetings and 9 of the last 10 many in shorten games with the Vaqueros averaging over 11 runs a game to SFA's 3 in that span.

This will be a battle between 4th SFA and 5th place UTRGV.

UTRGV started the 2026 campaign with impressive wins over BIG XII schools Kansas, and a series win over Houston, but have cooled off here in the middle of the season, currently on a 5-game skid and have lost 7 of their last 8 including a 3-game sweep by Northwestern State and a series loss to A&M CC.

Leading Hitters: Thomas Williams leads the starters with a .331 BA, followed closely by Julius Ramirez at .315 and Armani Raygoza at .305.

Power Threats: Armani Raygoza (10 HR) and Julius Ramirez (8 HR) provide the primary power in the middle of the order.

Pitching Rotation: The weekend rotation is typically led by Sergio Lopez (RHP), Victor Loa (LHP), and Robert Bonilla (RHP). Steven Oliva serves as the primary closer and was named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List.

Recent Status: Head coach Derek Matlock noted in early April that injuries have led to some inconsistency in the starting rotation and lineup, particularly affecting players like Carlos Vallejo.

The starting line-up is highlighted by Armani Raygoza batting .305 with 31 runs, 36 hits, 8 doubles, 29 RBI's, 31 walks (2nd in the conference), and 10 home runs (2nd in the conference) (33 HR's in career) with a SLG% of .627 (2nd in the conference) leading the conference in OPS at 1.081

Lumberjack Julian Swift leads the conference in hits (49) RBI's (40) Doubles (10), and triples (4), also 3rd in BA (.355)

Look for Templeton, LeBlanc, and Mulcahy in the starting rotation for the Jacks. Templeton is 5th in the conference in ERA (4.20) 7th in innings pitched (40.2) and 9th in K's (42)

SFA keeping themselves in the SLC Tournament hunt with 15 conference games remaining.

Cody Templeton returns to form in his best outing of the season getting the 7-2 win (4th) over the Vaqueros, the Lumberjacks move to 10-6 in conference play, moving into a three-way tie for 2nd in the standings, and 19-16 overall surpassing their win total from last year.

After a rough 2-0 start in the top of the 2nd giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, Templeton locked in going 5 shutout innings with one hit the rest of the way in a dominating performance striking out 9 in the process.

Jack James closed it in the final 2 innings going 2 innings, with no runs, 2 hits, no walks, and a K.

Juan Cantua with the multi-hit game with 2, including sending the Jacks ahead 3-2 with a single in the 5th to score Mark Henning.

SFA never looked back just methodical single hitting all night scoring runs around the bases. Josh Ibe with the only XHB at bat, a double in the 7th scoring Cantua.

Cantua would reach base on every at bat in the game with 2 hits and 2 walks.

UTRGV pitching had 13 K's but SFA made the hits when it mattered with 6 RBI's.

Jacks go for another series win today at 6:00.

A&M-Texarkana beat #4 LSUS at Pilot Field 8-5 last night for the first time since 2017.

It's been an up and down season for the Eagles with their very strong offense #2 offense in the Red River Conference behind LSUS (in 43 games 414 runs, BA .321, SLG% .491, 38 HR's, but the pitching has been the liability (overall ERA 7.17) but currently UTAMT has gone 10-1 in their last 11 after losing 8 straight. The pitching as of late has improved with Colton Sims, Remi Rountree, and Matthew Hart forming a nice little rotation.

But it has been that kind of season.

The Eagles 22-21; 11-11 are the projected #6 seed in the Red River Conference Tournament and are really battle tested having played 1/3 of the current NAIA Top 25 in 2026, going 4-12 in those games.

SFA collecting series wins, but can't quite get those sweeps,

A&M Texarkana beat Arkansas Baptist 45-0 in their game yesterday, it actually tied a NAIA record for most runs scored in a game.

Arkansas Baptist forfeited game two.

I didn't think that would be possible to score that many runs in a game, but then I checked, and Arkansas Baptist just started their NAIA program last season.

It's #3 against #5 in this 3-game SLC series against the Colonels of Nicholls, as we head down the 2nd half stretch of the 2026 season in a highly competitive SLC baseball race.

Nicholls is coming off a series win over #3 Lamar (tied with SFA) in Thibodaux. Nicholls has played a very tough schedule...

#15 Tennessee (3 game series)
#2 LSU
#10 Southern Mississippi (2X) (Won one)

NICH leads the overall series 19-18 since 2008 and 8-2 in the last 10, all in Thibodaux and have not played in Nacogdoches since 2018.

The lineup is highlighted by Caston Thompson who is second on the team with a BA of .333, first on the team in OPS 1.072 hits 45, runs 27, HR 11 (1st in the SLC), and RBI's 31.

With just 12 conference games to go, SFA is feeling that conference tournament bid getting close.

Nicholls takes game one 9-4 off of 15 hits, Jacks took an early lead 2-0 in the 1st Inning, with Cody Templeton going 5 scoreless innings before the wheels came off as the Colonels get a 4 run top of the 6th to take a 4-2 lead, SFA would answer in the bottom half of the inning with 2 more runs to tie it up at 4 going to the top of the 7th where NICH would counter with 2 more runs to take a 6-4 lead, only to add 3 more in the top of the 9th.

It was another late game collapse.

Templeton gives up 6 runs on 9 hits in 6.1 innings pitched, 4 k's and 1 walk, 5 total pitchers see action combining for 8 K's and 1 walk.

Jhett Creel and Julian Swift stay hot with 2 hits a piece.

Ok, that was an embarrassing moment, brought to you by Nicholls, taking game 2, the series, and the Lumberjacks to the woodshed 24-3.

The Colonels rack up 25 hits, scoring in every inning but one, while holding the Lumberjacks to 7.

Jacks throw 6 pitchers and all but one got lit up for 4 to 5 runs a piece (against the worst BA lineup in the conference)

NICH was just 2 RBI's away from setting the all-time NCAA record for most RBI's in a game (26 is the record by Florida State in 1999)

Mark Henning was the only Jack with a multiple hit day with 2, and Cermodrick Bland homered in the 1st.

We will see if SFA can get one out of this series.

Nicholls completes the sweep with a 5-0 shutout.

What started out as a pitchers duel Dylan Mulcahy goes almost 5 scoreless innings before the Colonels scored on a two run homer. Mulcahy finished with 5.2 innings pitched giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, with 9 K's and 3 walks.

Elian Balmaceda came in relief striking out 5 himself, giving up one more run in the 6th, in all the SFA pitching was solid with 15 K's but unfortunately no run support.

Credit to the Nicholls pitching staff with 11 K's and giving up only 3 hits on the day holding SFA to their season low in hits, and handing the Jacks their first conference sweep since the middle of the 2025 season.

This feels like a major set back to the season, a season that was showing such promise, but this was complete domination by Nicholls outscores SFA 38-7 in the series.

It was good though to see the pitching staff get back to performing at the level that they can, the lineup just couldn't generate any runs.

SFA still has first place Northwestern State on the road, McNeese State at home, and UIW in San Antonio.

Back to the WAC as SFA welcomes UTA to Pilgrim's Park on Tues. at 6:00 P.M
