BASEBALL HISTORY VS SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY FROM MAY 12, 2006 - APRIL 18, 2021
SLU dominates the overall series 30-11, and the Lions have won the last 5 meetings. The last SFA win over SLU was in 2019.
SFA continues their tour of some of the top teams in the SLC in series against New Orleans, Lamar, and now SLU.
The Lions under the management of 2nd year Head Coach Bobby Barbier have made great progress, going from 25-25; 9-14 an 8th place finish out of 9 teams, and no conference tournament invite in 2023, to a 30-24; 10-14, a #6 seed in the SLC Tournament winning two games in the process in Barbier's first season, after coming over from Northwestern State in 2024.
The team's late-season surge highlighted their potential, setting the stage for the 2025 season, where SLU has been picked second in the SLC pre-season baseball poll, while receiving 4 first place votes.
This season after 16-games, the team is highlighted by senior #35 Ryan Brome out of Katy, Texas who leads the team in runs 16, hits 22, home runs 7, and RBI's 16. Also, standout performer, junior shortstop
TJ Salvaggio, who in 2024 led the team with 52 runs, 13 home runs, and 42 RBIs returns to a loaded lineup that is currently batting .298, with 116 runs off of 125 hits, 32 home runs, and 100 RBI's.
The Lions pitching ace is senior #18 Brennan Stuprich from Kenner, Louisiana, snd after 4 starts has a record of 4-0; ERA 0.75; WHIP 0.67; IP 24, giving up only 2 runs off of 11 hits, striking out 37 while walking 5, allowing a BA of .141.
SLU is red hot with a 4-game series sweep of Lindenwood, 3-game series sweep of Alcorn State, 3-game series sweep of Northwestern State, series win on the road over American Conference foe, Memphis, and on Wednesday night, an impressive 7-4 win over Xavier.
The Lumberjacks are taking their lumps in 2025, but they are competing, while showing strong performances against some of the SLC's best in UNO and Lamar, avoiding those series sweeps that were all too common in 2024.
Look for SFA to do just that again, avoiding the sweep with their Ace #16 Cody Templeton.
