If you would have told me LU would start the season 0-4 in conference play I would have laughed in your face, but here we are.

That was the first win for SFA over Lamar in baseball since 2023, and the first win in Beaumont since 2022.

For sure. Now we need to follow that up with another good one today. They played great in 2 of the three phases last night with only setback being on hitting.

Luckily we strung enough together to get those two runs and our pitching and defense were outstanding

You better have a good bullpen when facing UTRGV.

This is the comeback team...

Southern Illinois, down 4-2 going into the bottom of the 6th, score 6 runs, win 8-4

#20 DBU, down 4-3 going into the 6th, score 12 runs, win 15-5

Lamar, down 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6th, score 4 runs, win 5-2

Houston, down 5-3 going into the 9th, score 6 runs, win 9-5

New Orleans, down 5-0 going into the 6th, score 10 runs, win 10-5

in 2024, UTRGV was #39 in the nation in attendance for baseball averaging 2,219 people a game for a total of 61,132 for the season.

Record crowd was 6,418 in 2022 when they played #6 Texas. Last season they had 6,044 against UTA.

SFA:3 (7-8; 2-3)
LAMAR:9 (11-5; 1-4)
FINAL

Things started well enough for SFA, holding Lamar to 11 straight scoreless innings from game 1 and 2 innings in game 2.

But Lamar is too loaded with talent to keep them down forever, and you knew it was coming.
Also, Lamar's pitching is on another level, very disciplined, with yet another multi-digit strikeout count, today at 10K's, and only 1 walk.

SFA took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd with Mulcahy striking out 4, but after some really weird bunts from Lamar, and one where Mulcahy took a nasty dive trying for the out, couldn't seem to get back in his rhythm on the mound giving up 6 runs off of 5 hits, along with 5 walks, which lead to him getting pulled after 3 innings.

Boyett, Irons, and Valdez came in relief and were pretty solid, there was no quit, while giving up 3 runs off of 4 hits, striking out 1 and walking 3 combined.

Ibe continues his hitting streak at 7 games.

Hoshizaki did an amazing job in the head of the lineup, going 3 for 4 including a double, and a run.

The Jacks will try again tomorrow at 4:00 P.M. to take the series.

What's depressing is watching all these games on TV and seeing all the nice baseball stadium venues the Jacks are playing in, and to then hear the announcers going on about all the upgrades and renovations they are having in terms of locker rooms, clubhouses, offices, facilities, luxury suites, etc.

Depressing, or exciting about what it shows the SFA potential is? We are decades behind on everything except basketball. It's going to take more than a minute to catch up. I spend more time in our facilities than most non-athletic department folks. They are really bad. It is really hard to be patient. But, I'm excited about what is happening.

And the move to the UT System was the best thing we could possibly do to ensure we meet that potential. I believe in the next 10-20 years we will see more growth for our little East Texas University than we've probably ever seen at SFA. Both in athletics and academics.
