I have been a big proponent of being patient with this team and a believer that we will get it together down the stretch this year. However, I feel it is okay to panic now. We are now in a make or break point of the season. The game against McNeese could demolish the rest of the season or spark a change (whatever that means for this team).
Our offense struggling this badly is just not going to cut it. We can be the best defensive team in the conference, but with this offense we will still lose a lot of games. When Underwood got here and began implementing his motion offense, we looked bad at times but it didn't take long to where you began seeing the easy looks his offense gave us and it ran smoothly at times even when we struggled. I'm not sure if I have really seen Keller's high-low offense run effectively all year (did not watch last night). I knew it would take time to get it implemented smoothly but I have yet to see it really flash or work well in short spurts. I'm not sure if I have seen Holyfield get an easy look in the post all year, and that is one of the big designs of this offense.
I'm not really sure if Keller is a good offensive minded coach. I suspected this when we hired him but kept an open mind knowing that a big change was coming. Now I am even more suspect. We are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to assists per game which is cause for concern. Keller needs to prove that he can teach a sound basic offense. I continue to see our team lost on the offensive end with no idea where they should be and at this point of the season we shouldn't look like that. I know we have barely had our starters for most of the season and I'm not saying we will never be a good team, but we have a right to be concerned now.
Now I admit I did not get to watch last night's game, and I know a few people who went and said our offense did look better so this may just be something taking longer than usual which is what I'm hoping for.
