This is round four of this year's prediction competition. We're still looking for a sponsor for this year's competition, so if you know of someone or if you would like to donate to the cause, PM me.

It is a very simple contest, just copy and paste what I have below between the two lines and fill in your prediction including the tiebreaker. The tiebreaker will occasionally change so be aware and make sure to check it. In order to determine the winner I will take the difference between your prediction of the SFA points and their actual points. Then I will take the difference of your prediction of the opponents points and their actual points. I will then add them together and determine the outcome. If you choose the wrong winner, you will be assessed a penalty which will be the worst score of those that chose the right winner.

The closest prediction will receive 10 points and then so on (2nd gets 9, 3rd gets 8...). If you have a perfect prediction, you will receive an 8 points bonus! I will do my best to have the scores posted within the next day of the game but no guarantees.

The tiebreaker for this game is the total number of points scored by our Bigs off the bench (Nieminen, Fisher, and Grujic) for the game. Good luck!

Ok, Round 4 deep thoughts...

Another game, another couple correct guesses (in the 60's) of the opponent's score. For some reason, we can't correctly guess SFA's score.

Tiebreaker correct answer was 0. No points by our bigs off the bench. This is starting to be a trend which I'm not sure if I fully support. Second game in a row with very limited minutes by those big guys. No Fisher or Gru in this one. Obviously we have a lot of talent in the team, but getting smaller may be a trend.

Ljacks&Longnecks is still king of the board even after being kept out of scoring for two weeks in a row. (Nice meeting you today at the game Ljacks!) 18 players on the board now. Starting to be a real competition, but plenty of time for newbies to get involved. 19 players today...again a record.

This is the first round that the early predictions won the most points. Maybe we're starting to get a grasp on what this team has going for it.

Another round against a D1 opponent where everyone picked the home team and they were right. Go Jacks!

It is hard to get a grasp on SFA scoring. Post game on the radio, coach (Mason I think) said something like, the half court offense is ok. I must be watching something else. We scored at will in transition offense. Set offense was essentially run the ball around the perimeter for 25 seconds and then force a shot of some sort. Or, don't get a shot off at al. Beyond frustrating to not get a shot after a time out. Made it easy for ULM to pack the defense in. No imagination in the set offense.

As far as the bigs are concerned, Gru looks no different than his first two years, Fisher has potential but looks lost on the floor, and I don't know what is up with Nieminen. Samuli looked good to me last season before he got hurt. This year, so far, I don't see much contribution beyond filling some minutes.

Free throw shooting. Ugh. Make a reasonable amount and we are in the 70's where many of us projected.

Definitely hard to figure out the offense though. Streaky shooting and droughts are keeping our opponents in the games. Hopefully they'll figure that out soon especially with the upcoming schedule. I'll be at the game saturday along with a couple other friends. Gotta get there early with the HS football playoff game at the same time as well.

My predictions have obviously gotten lost in the mail the last two weeks. But I'm still slightly ahead of the coordinator of this thing, so all is not lost... yet.

I'm just waiting for things to settle down before the pencil whipping begins...

Anyone going to the game Saturday needs to pay attention to this. It is Lufkin vs Longview. The last time they had a playoff game at Homer Bryce, it was by far the largest crowd in stadium history. Some estimates were as high as 27;000. I don't know about that,but we were ther two hours ahead of kickoff and struggled to find a seat.

Can we talk about this for a second?

1, that's freaking amazing for a team with East Texas high schools

2. While this is a HS Playoff game, it really speaks to how far & wide people will drive for good football. There's no reason that with a winning football program we couldn't regularly pull 15k for our home games.

3. I think this is most important, you have potentially 27k people that are in our target market for student recruiting. They're either parents, students, teachers, admins, etc. I'd market the crap out of SFA during this game. Setup a few booths for student recruiting, send our band director, drum major, etc to talk to the band kids, send a few of our dance squad members to talk to their dance teams, etc. Advertise our online course for continuing education for teachers during the breaks(I'm assuming teams use the video board). Great marketing opportunity for a game so large IMO.

I currently live in Longview and this is a huge game. If I hadn't already planned to come for the basketball game I would be down there for the game.

They are bringing buses for students, parents, and whoever else to come down for the game. I'm expecting we will have to park and walk to get to the coliseum for the game. Parking is going to be a mess. Hopefully we can get into butcher boys at noon for a bite to eat before.

Friday night is another huge game at Homer Bryce with Henderson vs Carthage. Two other schools that are in our area.

These two high school games will probably eclipse the SFA total attendance for the entire year or be right near it.

If the university was smart they would have people out there with booths to recruit.
