The Lumberjacks having a soft opening for the season tonight against the Kittycats of Huntsville. Should see some intensity and a lot of new faces, but the main hope is that it's a relatively smooth game with no injuries.

Expect playing time with many different lineups. Coach will probably fine tuning the sets and looks that he's getting out of his team.

Time to start an almost new season at the Sawmill.

Narit already getting into it with some Bearkats. They jumped on him.

Three shooting is good so far.

SFA 21-12 second media. Makke, Narit, and Scurry with threes. Pearson and Green looking ok so far.

How does Russell look?

SFA 27-18 third media. It's pretty chippy for an exhibition.

Russell hasn't shown much yet.

Looking ugly right now. Trying some new lineups but not a lot of leadership in the offense with Makke and Narit not in. Russell is looking good. Had a big put back slam for the play of the game so far.

Pretty sure that's him. Full leg brace and he can barely move.

Russell had a great slam but pulled his calf coming down.

51-37 U16. Russell back. He's playing good but cramping.

58-50 U12. Just ugly like every Sam game.

Not much to say about this. Learn g I guess. MJ Russell and Makke are legit.

The referee's took over this game. Weak.

Simmons looked very good. Got lots of playing time. Very athletic and smooth. Probably the most athletic guy on the floor.

I agree that Russell and Makke were the players of the game, but Simmons would be the third best, IMO. MJ is as advertised. The guy can leap out of the gym.

Sam must have shot 40 or 50 free throws (not joking, they really did). Brauer is going to have to get the fouling under control. But there were lots of ticky tac calls.

I thought our post play was underwhelming. We're going to have a hard time matching up with big teams. I thought Alisis played pretty well. Made several bunny shots from 5 feet.

Glad that Candler and even Happ got some playing time at the end.

I was not impressed with Sam Houston. They won't challenge in their conference.

I agree that the attendance was pretty good. I'm bad at estimating crowd size, but I'd guess that there were 2,500 or so there. Not bad for an exhibition.

In my opinion, nothing to write home about. I remember him making a couple of good plays in the first half, but that's about it.

Really like Makke. Looks like we have more depth this year. This team could be really good.

Well I guess Ed and I have to disagree about something or this forum gets to be a back-slapping fest.

I was very underwhelmed with Simmons. He has the two worst looking shots of the game. Seemed slow to the ball. The last 6 minutes when the tide had turned, he looked ok, but not when the game was competitive. I'm not writing him off, just in a game that didn't mean much, i didn't see anything that i felt meant anything.

Otherwise I agree with Ed. Manciel looked like he needs time to even get minutes. Daniel was big but couldn't move anyone. Alisas missed two bunnies. Pearson looked like the best big. Green hit all his free throws which was refreshing, but didn't seem to make much impact.

Lots of unknowns. Doesn't look like a gelled team but we won an easy game against a bad team and the outcome wasn't really ever in doubt.
