If the Ladyjacks are not picked to win the SLC this Fall then there'll be something rotten in Denmark.

Pretty sure Avery is coming back. She didn't participate in the Senior Night activities in the last regular season home game.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Ladyjacks are out looking for a big or two to add from the transfer portal.

No, they have used up their eligibility.

Several sources have said Avery will play next season.

If all stay, that is a good nucleus to build around.

I'm curious to see what next year's team looks like. We definitely need to get bigger. We're going to need some ballers to try to "break through" in the tournament.

However, seeding is critically important on the women's tournament. The top 3 seeds are 383-1 in the first round. No one was going to come close to beating Texas in that game. In fact, you have to have a 12 seed or better (which a 12 is the highest SFA can hope for right now) to even have a one in 10 chance of winning.

The women's game has an extreme bias toward the top 40 schools. As when Visscher left us for Michigan State, the current system doesn't leave much hope for a return to the glory years. But, I trust in Bishop to get us back for a third year in a row.

Matt Brown did this article on the men's side regarding more games going chalk than normal.

https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/here-s-why-cinderella-doesn-t-show-up-anymore

Essentially boils down to the small schools innovated by going heavy on quick guards, 3 point plays, and things like SFA's old press to take away the advantage of big schools having true bigs.

And now the pendulum is swinging the other way where high majors have learned how to negate those benefits and utilize their bigs in new ways. And that, while there are a bunch of 6' guys who can shoot, there are only a handful of athletic 7 footers on the planet and they are obviously snapped up by schools with significant amounts of NIL money.

I expect we're seeing a similar dynamic on the women's side. There are only so many 6'5 women on this planet with the particular set of skills needed and Texas/UConn/etc have the means to sign them.

So Nacluth is right. Get as good a seed as you can, sign as tall as you can, and then we gotta hope SFA comes up with the next great innovation to swing the pendulum back in mid majors favor by finding a way to limit the Giants that inhabit the paint for the higher ranked teams so we can get past round 1.

Either that or we've got to win the lotto and sign 2 or 3 of them for ourselves. I will do my best on the latter, but trust Bishop to put together the best squad possible in the meantime.
