SFA (15-7, 7-2) vs. New Mexico State (7-14, 0-9)
WHEN: 2/1 (WED) 8:00P.M.
WHERE: Pan American Center (Las Cruces, NM)
WATCH: ESPN+
It's time for the Lumberjacks to start to work their way through many WAC teams for the second time this season. It's the game within the game of conference schedules where coaches have to come up with game plans to "known" quantities. First up on the second time slate are the Aggies of New Mexico State.
The Aggies at zero wins halfway through the conference season are not trying to pull the long con, but they have the talent and firepower to pull it off. This team is just looking to get some confidence with a win and then they could be on a roll. It is critical that the Jacks do not provide that confidence tonight.
The Aggies are having a nightmare year after their dream success last year. After not losing a home conference game in many years until SFA broke their streak last year, they have lost every home game by an average of over 9 points. But, they have played the top teams fairly close including a tight game against Utah Valley on Saturday.
The Jacks know that they have the WAC where they want it except in tournament seeding. As has been the mantra this year, road wins are important. For the Jacks to gain one spot on the list, they need both games this week bad.
The good thing is that we have a full team that's starting to get real playing time together. Keller knows that this is the right time of year to be peaking. Controlling Pinson and Washington will be key, but the main thing is getting our offense flowing. Expect multiple rotations and a fast and furious pace.
This should be a game for the Lumberjacks to send a final farewell to New Mexico State before they leave for C-USA. It's not a gimme though, there's some chopping to be done.
