SFA (8-3) vs. #7 Kansas (8-1)
WHEN: DEC 18 (SAT) 7:00P.M.
WHERE: Allen Fieldhouse (Lawrence, KS)
WATCH: ESPN+
In the midst of one of the best non-conference slates the Lumberjacks have had in years, one game has been circled since it was announced - playing Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse. This is the type of game Jacks fans dream about - especially in the midst of a winning season against a top 10 opponent.
On paper, this is not a close game. Kansas has been destroying their opposition by an average of 20 points. Michigan St. and a very good Iona were not much challenge. Their one one-point loss was to a pesky Dayton team during a Thanksgiving tournament. They are loaded with all-Americans and probably two future NBA players. This game was over when they put it on their schedule. No one circled it. No one is worried about it.
But, SFA has a history over the last decade. It's something that started small when all hope was lost against VCU. It's been building through games like West Virginia, LSU, and Baylor. It was solidified when two years ago Kensmil dove on the ball and Bain "got up on his horse." #1 Duke beaten in Cameron. The safest halls in the country are not safe from SFA.
It's now who we are. It's what we live for.
The Jacks aren't coming in full of swagger with talk of being a top 25 team. There's no at-large bid on the line. We just laid an egg at home. Roti Ware is gone. This strong start of a season with wins over Buffalo and Liberty got punched in the face, and we've taken a stagger.
But Keller didn't go down. Neither did Kensmil or Kalcheries or Solomon. These guys know what it's like to win big. The taste is there. They want it. They know basketball is about will. And they know that on Saturday in Kansas, the Lumberjacks have a history of their own to impose.
Axe 'em!
