Coach Keller and company get to head down south for Thanksgiving and enjoy sunny Cancun for the holidays. To kick off the Cancun Challenge, the tournament kicks off in…Nacogdoches? That's right, the Jacks will play Middle Tennessee State at home to start their bracket of the MTE.
The Blue Raider of MTSU are not highly regarded in the C-USA this season, but they have the talent to surprise. Playing a very effective team defense and averaging over 20 forced turnovers a game, they just manhandled a very decent Winthrop team. 6'6" Jr. forward Deandre Dishman is the heart of the offense, but a workable guard corps led by Donovan Sims will match up well with our guards.
SFA is trying to shake off the letdown of a hard fought game that they let slip away. Kensmil owned the post, but beyond him, the team was erratic against a solid South Dakota St. team. Guard play has always been the concern with this team, and we're still looking for consistency.
The Cancun Challenge presents one of the best matched midmajor talent showdowns in the last couple of years. SFA pulled the strong side of the bracket that could have as many as 4 tournament teams at years end. It's time to start making some statements, and Friday is the right time to get it started.
