SFA (15-4, 11-2) vs. Abilene Christian (19-4, 11-2)
WHEN: MAR 3 (WED) 8:00P.M.
WHERE: William R. Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
SFA is down to their final home game of the year. Senior night, dreams of a title still alive if dim, chance for revenge against a top rival. These are the things going through this team's head as they prepare for tonight's match-up. It is going to be a bittersweet send-off for this team that has probably had the worst luck of any team in SFA's history.
COVID stopped a highly anticipated play-off run, shortened the season, spoiled match-ups, and now has probably ruined the best chance for the Jacks to hang a banner on this season. Plus, the postseason ban means that this week is it for this season that was so much work. It all seems so futile, and encapsulates what so many have felt this last year.
However, this team deserves more. They want more. They are not going to stop playing until they are told that they can't anymore. They deserve a fan base that will support them through every game. They need people to come out tonight, wear purple, and yell. The leadership of this team - all JUCOs who just had two years to play - have done much with the little they were given. It's time to stand up and applaud them. Cam, Charlie, David, Gavin, Roti - thanks for everything that you have given to our college and to this team.
Abilene Christian wants us to think that they are a sob story too. Same record in conference, same shaft from the scheduling committee, same title chance thrown away by a COVID cancellation. But, while they may wear purple, there's going to be no love lost tonight at WRJ. This rivalry has only started between these two teams, and it could be one to last in the WAC. But tonight the Wildcats are going down. No home cooking this time.
