SFA [RV] (24-3, 15-1) vs. Northwestern St. (12-13, 9-7)
WHEN: FEB 26 (WED) 6:30P.M.
WHERE: William R. Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
One month ago the SFA Lumberjacks were starting a five game stretch against the toughest SLC teams. They swept the series 5-0 sealing their place three games above the field. Wednesday, they start a second round through the same teams in the same order save the final game against Nicholls (who we're saving for Katy). This time, the Jacks get three of four at home - starting with those pesky Demons from Natchitoches.
Last time in Prather, the Jacks got out to their best start of the season absolutely dominating the Demons. They were up by 15 with four left in the first half. Then the Jacks went on cruise control while NWST started speeding up. They finally caught up and tied the game with five minutes to go. The Jacks buckled down with some defensive stops and closed out the game by 7.
That purple Louisiana team does one thing well - keeps other teams from scoring. They lead the league in opponent field goal percentage. The Jacks only shot 33% in the first tilt with really only five scorers. It was our worst team effort offensively despite never trailing. Toughness and team play has to be the goal if we're going to keep from being upset by a team who has played spoiler all year.
Comeaux is working back from his injury, but it was clear that he's not 100% yet. Roti did an excellent job with the first team in San Antonio at point. Kalcheries keeps struggling with playing a tad carelessly, but aggression is not a bad thing right now. 11 scorers like we had this weekend we go a long way toward sewing up that double bye that's on the line Wednesday night.
This is the moment that SFA has been playing for all year. The final four games of the season against the best the SLC has to offer. It's a perfect tune-up for Katy and beyond. It's time to implement that zeroed in focus that it takes to win the big games. Your Jacks aren't done yet. This is still just the beginning.
