SFA [RV] (23-3, 14-1) vs. Incarnate Word (9-17, 6-9)

This is the time of year when everyone tells you you're great. Top D1 scorer. Check. +20 in the win/loss column. Check. Clinched postseason berth and first round bye. Check. Sewed up that 12/13 seed in the tournament...not quite. If the Jacks start believing the hype, they will realize that it's a house of cards. People are telling them it's over. Not by a long shot.
Five games left in the regular season starting with today in San Antonio. Last time, Incarnate Word was dealt a staggering 24 point loss, but maybe more surprising was that it was a two point game with 8 minutes left. The Cardinals had stymied the Jacks into a low scoring affair before the depth of the home team erupted. Cam scored 19, Oddyst had 12, and Sama'zha had 7. The bench buried UIW.
Favored by 13.5 points, SFA has a different look. Our starters are dominating, but without that 38 performance by three bench players the previous game would have been close. The dilemma for this team is always who is going to step up and score. Every game, someone does. Who's game will it be today?
Defense is the key. So far, we have had little drop off on the defensive end despite who is on the court. The Cardinals are winners of four out of the last five - most of the come from behind variety. The Jacks have to play 40 minutes of full defense to keep the young red squad from fighting back at the end.
The Cardinals don't shoot or foul. The Jacks have to get it done on the floor. Our bigs have to be strong in the lane while our outside shooting stroke has to keep up the pace. 30+ from the bench seems tough, but it would be a pleasant surprise. The traveling home crowd in SA should help the energy.
The Lumberjacks are focused. There's more work to be done. Let's get it.
