Tailgate outside the coliseum announced for the doubleheader.

No invitation for student orgs to setup but WoW will have a tent in the grassy area outside the coliseum, will have giveaways, etc, and certain organizations who signed up will be tabling there. Not exactly a Lumberjack Ally tailgate but its something to get students out at least.

Yeah at least it's something. PHA sent me a message a few months ago about it, but never heard anything back. So I guess they decided not to make it anything other than what it is now.

Which is a shame, I hate that they discourage tailgating for basketball games.

That's cool. The basketball teams need more support and activities for the students.

home games are more important now than ever. Like the UIW post game article said we could have easily gone 2-0 on the road or 0-2 on the road. 1-1 doesn't seems so bad especially b/c how close the cc game was.

PHA apparently is permanently moving (again) back to section 106. They have the large flag prepared for tonight and will be a staple at all games going forward. I wish we could enforce that students can ONLY sit in 106 and 105, as well as ONLY students can sit in these sections. Last few years too many random GA ticket holders sit there, which causes friction and causes the students to not stand, etc.

I for one, still wish we would try to have the students surround the baseline and all be close to the court and opposing bench. Would easily be a greater environment. But, as long as we could at least get them together...that's step one.

Agreed. I love how SMU's "mob" student section does it. Its the lower level all the way around:

Yep, love that, also similar to what NC State has. Unfortunately that's not fully possible with the WRJ since those examples have different levels for those lower sections. But still, something should be able to be figured out.

We should reach out and/or propose that they make the area below a full tailgate scene for Saturday games. Just like football, where everyone and can set up their own tailgate.

^ I have absolutely no doubt athletics would be behind it. School administration? Maybe not so much. The rowdy tailgates during football season haven't won a lot of favors with the conservative townspeople (aka "boosters"). Getting a Lumberjack ally style tailgate there would be a fight.

If this game stays close we are going to be in trouble bc they can shoot from 3. We are not defending very well. Thank you traylor

Need some defense to stop that 60% shooting. Actually we're winning the defense battle, just giving up high percentage shots. I knew my 87 I guessed in the pick em was ambitious, but we might make it after finally having a decent shooting first half.
MasterAxe

Don't mean to be an ass, but you can't win the defensive battle and give up that many high percentage shots. Can't have both. High percentage shots come from losing defense.

The tiebreaker on the pick me prediction should be "how many minutes will tj and Ivan be on the court at the same time"

I meant we were winning possessions. We had about 50% more shooting opportunities than they.

Our waste the clock strategy that started 8:00 out is barely going to make at this rate.

We got to get better at closing out game. Can't play like that away from home. Another wide open look at the end for the other team then Howard sank a half court shot. Would have lost if this game was at uca
MasterAxe

What terrible strategy downnthe stretch. That's a tell tale sign of a team that has no idea how to win and a coaching staff that is clueless.

We're damn lucky a 4-16 team didn't beat us.

Happy for win, sad by which how it came.

A win is a win and we needed it. Refocus and get ready because UNO is going to come in guns blazing Saturday...

If we play "defense" against UNO and SAM the way we did tonight, were going to get humiliated.

Phew! That was way too close of the Jacks. I knew this UCA squad was better than their record, they had the toughest non-conference schedule in the country.

This game we over-drove the ball, needlessly clogging up the lanes as we have seen before. Not shooting wide open shots and dribbling right into the heart of the defense. Need better spacing and shooting the ball. Tj and Josh please stop traveling.

I did like Leon in this game, glad coach K started him, he was the only one that came to play at UIW.

I'm real concerned about the coaching. Very. This is a bad team we barely beat. I'm prepared for little improvement.

Not sure exactly what some of you were talking about. The last 5 minutes of the game our possessions looked like this:

- turnover
- missed jumper
- 1 of 2 free throws
- turnover
- made jumper
- 1 of 2 free throws
- 1 of 2 free throws (offensive board)
- missed layup, offensive board, missed jumper

So we missed a few shots and attacked the basket leading to free throws and offensive rebounds.

Anyways, we played ok. Controlled most of the second half, yet couldn't put them away. UCA can put up points as good as anyone, but that still should have been a 10 point win. Game was won on the glass. We had 23 offensive boards. UCA had 23 rebounds TOTAL. Still need a better performance this weekend. We can beat UNO.

Students deserve a shout out tonight. What could be seen on tv looked great, as did the giant flag. It's a good start! If we can get them to get a little rowdy now instead of sitting on their hands, we'd be in business.

I know we have these "show for dough" games on purpose, but I get annoyed when I see them sitting up top in the corners, out of the game, wearing red or green or whatever. Maybe it's just me, just wish we could get them to show up every game instead of only coming to see if they win money and then leave early. That's the way it's always been so I'm used to it, still.

Attendance at 3,612. Hopefully we can reach 4,000 on Saturday b/c more people are free.

I'm not saying our efficiency was terrible at the end, but around the halfway point of the second half, we were moving and looking good. It was clear that we went to a clock draining strategy. Our last second shots were mainly rough looks (at least that's how it felt 10 rows back). It just felt like we were playing free at up tempo, and our slow down felt forced. Maybe on a rewatch it won't look as bad.

I could complain about some horrible officiating, but it went both ways mainly. Huntley's bobble out of bounds given back to us was great. Though after Charles's clean block was called, they replayed it so many times you could see the ref get mad and embarrassed. We didn't really get any calls for the next couple of possessions.

I'm happy with the win. Howard is great. I think we need the defensive intensity we saw in the first CC game on Saturday. Axe 'em!

This but the complete opposite. Have no idea how you can say that. We took too many jump shots and didn't drive. It was one of Keller's bigger points in the post-game conversations. We need to do better getting to the line.

UCA is a special scoring team and the way they spread us out on defense was impressive. I loved the pick and roll stuff we did with TJ and Leon. Big factor in the offensive rebounds we were able to pull down because it got their guards on our bigs. No coincidence that those two players were a combined 1 rebound from each having a double-double.

I'm really not disappointed in what I saw tonight. Not at all. That was a win over a team that clearly had its shot falling and even if we let down at the end, it was in hand most of the night.

Saturday will be a TOTALLY opposite game. UCA is small, quick, spread teams out and take a lot of jumpers, UNO is big and plays gritty in the paint stuff. Definitely not the three-point threat the last two have been. It'll be a fun one.

More tomorrow

We are playing with fire. We won today and thats okay but we got burned on Saturday in San Antonio. we where up by 3 and UCA inbound the ball and passed it to a wide open player (who had already made 2 three early in the game.) He had all the time in the world to shoot but lucky he hit the rim. Sounds familiar

The second half of the game was a Tale of Two SFA Teams. The first half of it SFA looked like potential conference champions... Good spacing, crisp passes, and good shooting. The last half of it SFA looked like a confused high school team... Bad spacing, turnovers, and bad shooting.

The result on Saturday will depend on which team shows up. In the meantime, I'm going to stock up on heartburn medicine. I can't take much more of this...

I agree with BigJack85. How can anyone defend this level of play? We went from running the SLC table (for years) and iconic tournament victories to losing to Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian. I guess some are still in the denial stage.

Realism isn't denial. Three guys are back from last years team: a guy who was a freshman (TJ), a guy who's playing with a massive bandage over a broken hand (Ty), and a guy who only saw the court in defensive relief (Dallas). Well, and Jovan. If you can't see why the level of play might be a little bit back down to earth for one season, I can't help.
