We need to focus on our Quidditch team. With the CTE issues in Football, Quidditch will be what packs Homer Bryce on Saturdays in 20 years.
Yeah, that would be almost as thrilling as watching two soccer teams run up and down the field (uh, excuse me... "the pitch") for three hours and end in a 0-0 tie.
I get the feelings on soccer to some degree. No sport has the same protracted collisions as football or rugby. But.... the financial realities are coming home to roost and soon. Especially if we (SFA) don't grow. I can't imagine tailgating for soccer. That being said unless the NCAA mandates shorter football seasons or otherwise lowers the cost for 95% of the universities that lose money on football , the end is near.
I think even if most schools made money on football, they still won't be able to survive the inevitable lawsuits. Even if a school can get away with saying they didn't know any better in the past, it's going to be hard to make the argument to continue sponsoring football once the full CTE picture is in view.
To be fair, I feel the same about soccer. I find it tough to watch, but if we're playing it, I'll be watching & pulling for the Jacks. Hell, we could start an ice dancing team, so long as it beats Sam Houston, I'll be pulling for us lol.
