Clint Conque is an excellent recruiter. On paper, these players he has on his team are probably some of the most talented in SFA history. But the team is not coming together, and I think for the first time since he's been here, it is fair to blame Clint. He's not dealing with injuries this year. Everyone looks deflated already. We've given up 50+ two weeks straight and struggle to get a single first down.
I don't think it's a talent issue. I think it's a coaching issue right now, and I think it's time for Clint to feel the pressure.
Isaac may be right and we may turn this around and win 5 or 6 games. Hell, we may have a drastic turn around and make the playoffs.
But right now, the clock is ticking.

Now seems like a good time to rehash that offseason discussion on whether we should be a basketball only school.

This team is talented but terrible. Reminds me of freaking Texas. Why do I have to be a fan of the two most uninspired programs in the state.

I think we can do both. For sure. My expectation is not that we reach the playoffs every year just play competently. I was at the HBU last year. What a complete display of incompetence. I think the trend (I mentioned in a previous post) We are staring at 4-7 at best. Probably will get walloped by ACU Sam and Nicholls. That's all that needs to be said.

I don't think youth and inexperience is lazy at all. It's a huge part of all college sports. It's the reason a generally bad HBU team is going to surprise lots of people. It's why SFA beat West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. Experience is HUGE in college sports.

But it's not an excuse for tonight. Some growing pains and unforced errors, sure. Not 51-14.

So if "youth and experience" is the excuse this year, what's the excuse for the last two years?

Same excuse, recycled.

Been watching SFA football for decades. I was there for 77-7 whipping by Texas A&I. With our football history, my expectations are modest. I expect us to play clean, smart and with heart. Last night was an abomination. Play calling was awful. Execution was awful. Youth and inexperience can not be an excuse in year four. I feel bad for the players. They deserve to be put in a better position to be competitive.

We would miss the marching band if football was dropped. They continue to be one of the best.

We went to the volleyball match Saturday afternoon. That is a real team with real coaching. Fun to watch and support. If you have not been to one of their matches, do yourself a favor and check them out.

I'm so over football at SFA. They haven't given us a reason to be excited in a long time. November can't get here fast enough.

So UIW maybe a good match up for us.

UIW 0-2

L @Fresno State 0-66 gave up 613 total yards; 8 yards per play
L @ Sacramento State 22-56 gave up 535 total yards; 8 yards per play

SFA 0-2

L @SMU 14-58; gave up 465 yards; 6.5 YDS per play
L S. Utah L 14-51; gave up 633 yards; 6.6 YDS per play

If we lose to UIW I'm sure a change will be made.

We don't have to get rid of the Marching band. We'll just take some of the football budget and send them to prominent events. Presidential Inaugaration, military ceremonies etc. Plus, we can innovate the first basketball court marching band.

As I too suffered through the Charlie Simmons era (Texas A&I game), the display I witnessed on Saturday will do little to put butts in the seats at Home Brice. Who wants to go to a game when you get plowed every week. I'm guessing after this loss there will be a decline in sales for the Battle of the Woods also. Sad

To make matters worse, one of the Danettes on the Dan Patrick show this morning mentioned this game in their best and worst segment. It was mentioned as one of the best of the weekend because Dan likes SUU? Anyway, the Danette said Southern Utah beat Stephen F-ing Austin 51-14.

Not a huge Patrick fan to begin with...he tends to take whatever it topical and run it into the ground, but that one hurts. Ouch!
Patrick likes SUU...?

I disagree about the talent. Our guys look slow and small, compared to opponents each week. I liked the class he got four years ago (the one with Marlon Walls and Franklin), but the last two have been disappointing.

Oh, it will be embarrassing for sure at NRG Stadium. That other half of the stadium will be packed with orange, and our side will have a lot of red -- because you will be able to see all the empty red seats. They might as well give Sam fans some of the SFA share of the tickets. I haven't decided if I am going this year or not. I have never missed a BOTPW, but I am considering missing this year. I can't witness again what I have seen the last three/four years.
