Steps forward tonight. Lots of guys got to play. Defense shone after the one first half score. 2-0 in conference.
Let's hope injuries are minor and few.
Next week is a whole different kettle of fish. ACU will be the best team we will have faced this year --at their place--and a history of tough games. Jacks will have to be sharp and ready.

I thought the first team offense performed very well. The defense, on the other hand, worries me a bit. They have given up too many big plays the past two weeks. And there doesn't appear to be as much depth on the defense as there is on the offense. (I know, I'm knit-picking after a nice win.)

Just from an outsider perspective Gavin and Speedy appeared to be okay on the sidelines.

Choosing a player of the game will be tough. The team battled the rainy conditions, early adversity, and the injury bug and still dominated their opponent, and it was truly a team effort. Might need your guys help in choosing a Sawmill Sports Player of the Game for this one.

I'm not sure "too many big plays" is the right words. Can't be real critical of the defense, it feels like we have had too many sacks, fumble recoveries and interceptions. Those can be backed statistically. A long run on a broken tackle and a long pass play (McNeese opening drive communication debacle) not concerning. The TD where the guy could have caught 8 balls all alone in the end zone, was alarming regardless of the game being put away. It's early, we are aggressive, exciting and the boys are in positions to make plays. Boys watching and in the recruiting channels, like what they are seeing and that will benefit our program. ACU will be a real test at their place, lets hit the road fanbase

I'd give it to Rutherford. Not flashy stats, but a very efficient 140 yards on 16/21 passing. Directed the offense efficiently, made no mistakes, and he escaped the pocket when he had to.

Jenkins would be my second choice. Only 72 yards but they came on some very tough running.

My third choice (follow me here...) would be the Lumberjack Marching Band. They didn't miss a beat or a play, even in the steady drenching rain of the first half. Showed great support for the Jacks through the final whistle.
