Happy for the historic season. Future is bright for us. Lots to build upon. Hopefully a better side of the bracket for next year so we don't play the second best team in the FCS.

All in all I'm proud of our boys. I hope Carthel just praises our guys and keep looking forward to the new season.

Too many superlatives to count. Carthel and staff deserve immense credit/respect.

Imagine what we could do with a new locker room (structure).

As a freshman who just started paying attention to the football team closely, I will say that was one hell of a season to start with. Glad I got to witness great players and a great season. Also, as someone who discovered this forum and website at the beginning of the season, I'm glad there's a good place to keep up with news and updates. Let's go win the natty next year!!!!

Glad to see you're a student engaging on the forum. As a recent grad, please spread the word! We need students engaged! And keep posting!

And from what I've learned over the past few days, vote yes on the next ballot form for creating an athletic fee so we can level the playing field between us and other FCS schools.

Axe em.

Will be watching replay tomorrow as missed it live flying home. Want to see the dropped passes and defense lapses mentioned in thread.
By far, best SFA season in mucho years.
As I explained to my wife--Montana, Montana St, North Dakota St, South Dakota St are perineal powerhouses in FCS--playoffs yearly etc.
SFA still has a good distance to go in that regard.
This season and results were great, now can SFA continue to produce a great football product season to season. Thats the next test.
As for comments about the defense lack of performance in the playoffs, I would offer that ACU and Montana St were easily the 2 best teams we played this season. I would say that their coaching staffs did a great job of studying film and finding the holes or weaker spots in our defense. We hear several comments on here about great coaching that others have, so take these as 2 examples.
One can take nothing away from what our defense did all regular season regardless. Having our DC here for a full second season helped SFA grow tremendously on defense. However, will we get to keep him another season before bigger schools come calling.
Next season will be a big test. In conference we will have the target on back as defending champs.
The work of this season was excellent but the work of maintaining a champs status is just beginning.
Now for some solid recruiting and to continue to actually build us into our own perineal status as conference and playoff contenders year in and year out.

If we don't get a general studies degree at SFA it will really hurt and might even cost us Carthel.. as you can tell the transfer portal is how you rebuild and we are losing 27 Srs. I know for a fact we have a QB that is a back up QB at a Big Ten school that wants to come play in Nacogdoches but his 76 hours he has earned SFA will only allow 42 to count towards degree at SFA.. we won't be able to compete unless we have some players from the portal..

On the note of ACU and MSU being the best teams we faced all year, they absolutely were, but I think another part of it is just playoff football is different man. You're gonna get everyone's best shot because if you lose, there is no tomorrow. ACU and MSU both also had some do the best offenses in the entire FCS, so they were just plain gonna be tougher to slow down. I still would put our defense against anyone in the country, too many mistakes just put us in bad spots unfortunately. Missing 2 starting DBs including the best defensive back in the FCS hurts as well.

Mike Mutz is on the top of the hiring list for Georgia Southern and Texas State. I feel like this was his last game as the Lumberjack DC. But I do feel like the way the defenses have been playing SFA has become a very attractive landing spot for both coaches and players.

We should kill it in the transfer portal once it opens after the success this year. I expect us to get some big names to compliment the young guys we have coming back and reload our roster.

We will be back next year. We will just be back with experience in this situation.

Agree with you. It was so good to be relevant in Football again. I follow us regardless of records but obviously winning is a far better route. Now I want and dare I say expect SFA to put itself in that position anually.
Now as 4460 pointed out, losing 27 seniors can not be taken lightly. Can't really comment on what grades transfer for portal guys. Have to leave that to those that know.
Certainly this nice taste of success will stay with all the returning crew.

And let's not forget how many young players got meaningful reps this year. We had a very deep team pretty much across the roster. A lot of guys who know the standard and are gonna wanna live up to it.

The odds were long. Short week and a long travel day. Altitude. Half of the secondary, including a guy that will be playing on Sundays, out. Proud of everyone involved in this team, including Cheer and the LMB. Probably a top two or three season in 100 years. Didn't quit.

Yes, there was no quit, and it was 20-20 in the second half, who knows if not for the 3 TO's (21 points off of TO for MSU) the hole that was dug in the first half, what the outcome might have been?

Welcome to the Forums! It's quite normal for freshmen to take a while before putting their high school days in the rear view mirror. Get involved and stay involved in all SFA athletic teams, men and women. Our women's volleyball, basketball, tennis, and track & field teams are exceptionally talented, even nationally recognized. Our men's football, basketball, and track & field teams are, too. Encourage your friends to get involved and get them to games, too. #AxeEm

Proud of the team, coaches, staff and everyone associated. A season to build so much off of. Very happy for Carthel!

That said, I feel like I can still subconsciously hear the ESPN announcers glazing MT ST. Don't get me wrong, MT ST and their playoff experience was the difference maker last night. They were prepared to go from the first whistle, while it took the Jacks nearly the entire first half to settle. But DAMN, it was very apprently the officiating crew & broadcast wanted the Bobcats to advance. Seemed like we were listening to the local Bozeman production, despite being on the main ESPN channel.

Sorry to rant, I'm still extremely grateful we got to experience this season. Axe Em

Jacks6, I agree absolutely with you as far as the ESPN narrative. Sounded like a documentary about the greatness of Montana State.

Pardon this filibuster:

I'm a recent-ish grad (hence the username) and a Nacogdoches native. I have suffered so many years having a mediocre football program and with this year… I've unfortunately tasted the blood of a competitive football program. And now I desperately need more. I am desperate to have a program that's respected nationally and I think (and hope) Carthel is our shepherd towards that future.

Mid season this year, home game attendance around the FCS, and SFA was hovering around the 6-7k posted attendance. I got really frustrated with the lack home support and then had to check myself. I haven't been to any home games so how I can I be upset others aren't going? I flew in for the 1st round when we hosted ACU and had a blast. I'm planning a big weekend for next season where I'm trying to get a group of 30-40 friends from my college years to come tailgate a home game (that's not homecoming) to do my part.

My real question is: What else can I do? How else can I support the program? Are smaller donations (ie $100-500) actually impactful?

(During the day I'm in Medical Sales so as far as applying my specific skills I could conjure up a small pool of other young alums for Donations)

There are several avenues for a donation in that range. I choose to make a small donation monthly to the Sawmill Collective. If you interested follow the link.

I agree with you, this is one of the best seasons in the history of the program. I'm an old fart and believe the '89 season is at the top of that list, but this season is most enjoyable one I've experienced since that year. Here's hoping next season becomes the best ever in SFA history.

I agree with most but we certainly got our breaks with the officiating crew.
Yes, ESPN wants the Montana "Brawl of the Wild" but we simply got beat by the better team as bad as I hate to say that! I pull for Carthel and crew to maintain this for years cause I feel he wants to be in Nac! As always, GO JACKS!

Hey 22!
I definitely think those kind of donations are impactful, especially if more alums take up that kind of charge. Your idea of rounding up alum is great, too & could become an annual fun reunion kind of weekend. We went to our first FB game in pribably 10 to 15 yrs at SFA last weekend when we played ACU & had a blast! Will definitely pick a couple home games to attend next year. I think these things (donations, attendance) helps with tye building bricks of a program. The interest is there because of the amazing season we had and we need to ride that wave.

Conversely, we've always gone all out for Ladyjacks, especially basketball & they've always been so successful. This year is looking to be a struggle but we still plan on attending as many games as possible & donations because it's important to also maintain support, even during seasons that might be lackluster.
