HCU SLC Rankings (10 Teams)
#8 in scoring offense (17.4); #7 in scoring defense (27.2)
#9 in total offensive yards a game (277.9); #6 in defense (346.4)
#4 in rushing offense (139.3); #8 in rushing defense (180)
#9 in passing offense (138.6); #2 in passing defense (166)
In this his 2nd season, Head Coach Jason Bachtel looks to improve on a dismal 2025 season, one where his offense line is ranked last in the SLC, giving up 29 sacks on the season (averaging 3 a game) and a defensive line that is struggling to get to the QB, sitting last in the conference in sacks (7).
On a positive note HCU is ranked #1 in the conference in interceptions (13) 3 of which went for TD's and #6 in forced fumbles (6) but last in recovering fumbles (2).
Former SFA OC Mike Nesbitt, in his first season at HCU has the conference leading rusher in talented and former 3-star recruit redshirt freshman RB #24 Xai'Shaun Edwards 5-9; 175, out of Clear Springs High in League City, who is averaging 95 yards a game, with 854 total rushing yards, 6.0 AVG, and 10 TD's.
Mississippi State transfer Sr. QB #16 Jake Weir 6-2; 210 out of Tupelo, ranks last in the SLC with 91 completions for 781 yards, 2 TD's and 6 INT's, leads the offense.
On defense look for impact player senior LB #6 Rodney Dansby 6-0; 225 out of Bellaire High who leads the team in tackles (62.0) TFL (3.5) also has an INT, and FF.
In what is shaping up to be that allusive special season that many in Lumberjack Nation have been waiting for, SFA has now won 7-straight games for the first time since the 1995 season (finishing 11-2 and semi-finalist in the FCS playoffs) and look for more, going for win number 8 in a row, something that has not happened since the 1989 season. (12-2-1, Championship Game)
We have history in the making here folks for SFA football!
