It was a rough start to the season going 0-4, but now the Lions of East Texas A&M are riding high into this homecoming weekend in Commerce. Head coach Clint Dolezel, looks to build more off his team's 52-45 barn burner upset win over UIW in San Antonio, as the Lions have now won 2 of their last 3 games and find themselves setting alone in second place in the SLC as ET welcomes the Lumberjacks into Memorial Stadium.
East Texas A&M has the 4th best scoring offense in the SLC at 29 points a contest, averaging 127 yards on the ground, while passing for a conference best 270 yards a game.
Familiar names at QB, with veteran junior #11 QB Eric Rodriguez 5-10; 199 out of Fort Bend is back, sharing duties with senior #2 Ron Peace the athletic 6-2; 210 QB out of Malakoff, Texas. Last Saturday the duel QB system combined for 429 total yards and 4 TD's against UIW. (Both QB's throwing for 193 yards and 2 TD's each for the game with no INT's)
Two of the top receivers in the SLC that dawn the gold and navy blue are sophomore #9 WR Davin Matthews 5-9; 192 ranked #1 in the conference in yards per game (112) and senior #7 WR Christian Jourdain, 5-10; 178 ranked #2 in the conference in catches (36), both speedy receivers have combined for 1,023 yards and 6 TD's in conference play.
The Lion's defense ranks last in the SLC in scoring defense (41 points) defending the pass (254 yards a game and 14 TD's), only registering 4 INT's on the season.
On the ground ET surrenders 165 yards a game, for a total of 20 TD's, which is just one better than Northwestern State for the worst in the SLC.
The leading tackler for the Lions (58) is #4 LB Koby-Sebasyen, King the 6-1; 230 pound senior out of Summer Creek High school in Houston. King also leads the team in TFL (9.0) and sacks (3.0) and look for impact player #6 LB Kyree, Anderson the 5-11; 230 pound senior out of Cypress, Texas with 44 total tackles, 7.5 for a loss, 2 sacks and 3 FF.
With last season's 14-19 upset loss in Commerce, the Jacks will no doubt look to right that wrong with payback, as they come to town, with their take no prisoners purple swarm, that is the #1 SLC ranked defense, ready to tame the mighty beasts from the East.
