It was a rough start to the season going 0-4, but now the Lions of East Texas A&M are riding high into this homecoming weekend in Commerce. Head coach Clint Dolezel, looks to build more off his team's 52-45 barn burner upset win over UIW in San Antonio, as the Lions have now won 2 of their last 3 games and find themselves setting alone in second place in the SLC as ET welcomes the Lumberjacks into Memorial Stadium.
East Texas A&M has the 4th best scoring offense in the SLC at 29 points a contest, averaging 127 yards on the ground, while passing for a conference best 270 yards a game.

Familiar names at QB, with veteran junior #11 QB Eric Rodriguez 5-10; 199 out of Fort Bend is back, sharing duties with senior #2 Ron Peace the athletic 6-2; 210 QB out of Malakoff, Texas. Last Saturday the duel QB system combined for 429 total yards and 4 TD's against UIW. (Both QB's throwing for 193 yards and 2 TD's each for the game with no INT's)

Two of the top receivers in the SLC that dawn the gold and navy blue are sophomore #9 WR Davin Matthews 5-9; 192 ranked #1 in the conference in yards per game (112) and senior #7 WR Christian Jourdain, 5-10; 178 ranked #2 in the conference in catches (36), both speedy receivers have combined for 1,023 yards and 6 TD's in conference play.

On the ground ET surrenders 165 yards a game, for a total of 20 TD's, which is just one better than Northwestern State for the worst in the SLC.

The leading tackler for the Lions (58) is #4 LB Koby-Sebasyen, King the 6-1; 230 pound senior out of Summer Creek High school in Houston. King also leads the team in TFL (9.0) and sacks (3.0) and look for impact player #6 LB Kyree, Anderson the 5-11; 230 pound senior out of Cypress, Texas with 44 total tackles, 7.5 for a loss, 2 sacks and 3 FF.

With last season's 14-19 upset loss in Commerce, the Jacks will no doubt look to right that wrong with payback, as they come to town, with their take no prisoners purple swarm, that is the #1 SLC ranked defense, ready to tame the mighty beasts from the East.

Clint Dolezel has those guys believing they can beat anyone. The team is gonna need to have their head in a swivel and take care of business.

This may now be the biggest challenge of the season now that Lamar looks so bad.

New Sawmill Sports Power Rankings.

1. SFA- Dominant performance against Nicholls who, while having an awful record, has played well defensively all year. And the dominance came in spite of a number of uncharacteristic mistakes by SFA. If SFA didn't let off the breaks they score closer to 50 points.

2. SLU- they've now gone 8 straight quarters without allowing a point. Granted it was against probably the worst NWST team in years and a really down McNeese, but still impressive.

3. ETAMU- Clint Dolezel has those boys believing they can contend. After a bad start, they're playing quality football, including the upset over UIW last night.

4. Lamar- Lamar keeps finding ways to win, even if it seems like they're doing everything possible to not. Still struggling against not very good opponents, but until they lose I can't justify dropping them any further.

5. UTRGV- This is a scrappy team with zero quit. They clawed back and nearly beat the overrated Lamar. They have a solid offense, but lack the defense to claw out harder wins.

6. UIW- They got thoroughly embarrassed by ETAMU. It almost feels like the wheels are falling off as this team is now 100% out of the playoff race.

7. McNeese- They dominated a hapless HCU team. This team has talent, they've just underachieved so hard all season. Beating the second worse team in the conference doesn't help them much.

8. Nicholls- offensively they're not good at all. Defense helps them slightly, but not a lot.

9. HCU- Still look like a sub D1 opponent. Somehow still not as bad as number 10.

10. NWST- For as improved as they looked early in the year, they look live they've regressed even further. They look worse than a year ago at this point, and don't show any signs of improvement.
