Okay, so I understand having Rutherford throw some short passes to gain some confidence and feel for the game.....However we have a good stable of runningbacks....perhaps using them would be helpful.

Rutherford looking bad so far. The OC is calling short pass plays for him without success. It could be a longer day than was expected.

I've seen enough of Rutherford!! McElyea absolutely couldn't do any worse. Hate to say it, but Rutherford is not a D-I level QB. Inaccurate. A bonehead decision on that last play of the half.
Ironically that last play should've been what he's been trying to do all game. Not air it out. He doesn't have the arm for that. He's an athletic QB. He needs to try and use that and make more plays with his feet instead of what he's doing.
Shoulda kicked FG from the 5 and shoulda had some clock management at end of half . Yes that's on coaches.
I will say in some defense of Rutherford--He is making his first college start. and has probably worked with the first team in practice all of 5 days at best. Many of his incompletions show the lack of practice and timing.
