(RV) STEPHEN F. AUSTIN STATE (1-1) VS. (RV) MCNEESE (1-2)

WHEN: September 14, 2024 (Sat.) 7:00 P.M.
WHERE: Lake Charles, Louisiana (Cowboy Stadium)
TV: ESPN+
HEALTH SYSTEMS DAY / TEACHER APPRECIATION

SERIES HISTORY (1951-2019)

WINS:13
LOSSES:17
TIES:2

Last time they played was 2019 when McNeese won 33-10 in Nacogdoches.

The Cowboys of McNeese are still looking for their mojo, now with a record of 1-2 early in this season with one close loss to #21 Tarleton State (23-26) as well as their money game against Texas A&M (10-52)

The Cowboys are 1-0 at home with their one win against Southern (7-21)

On offense McNeese feature two quarterbacks in senior Montana transfer and duel threat QB #2 Clifton McDowell 6-5; 233 who has completed 15 passes for 273 yards and 2 TD's while rushing (his strength) and leading the team with 132 yards 4.4 average and 2 more scores.

Also, look for Norman, Oklahoma redshirt freshman QB #6 Kamden Sixkiller 6-4; 203 to get reps as well who has completed 18 passes for 160 yards and a TD.

Both quarterbacks will be well protected by a big offensive line that averages 311 pounds.

As a whole the Cowboy offense has struggled to move the ball averaging only 18 points a game, no wide receivers with over 100 yards receiving and the defense is giving up over 28 (although most of that against Texas A&M)

The Cowboys like to run the ball while averaging 181 yards a game rushing and 151 yards through the air.

On defense you have pre-season All-American junior LB Micah Davey 6-2; 235 who leads the team in tackles with 39, 2.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, and 2 BU.

2023: 1-10
2022: 4-7
2021: 4-7
2020: 3-4
2019: 7-5

McNeese will be looking to end their 4-season losing streak in 2024, and that starts in the SLC with the return of SFA that will be looking to end a streak of their own, as the Cowboys have won 3 straight in the series.

The Jacks should head into Lake Charles with a great amount of confidence and momentum after a great showing defensively on the road against North Texas.

Question is can the Lumberjacks get their offense rolling as well, can the offensive line give Vidlack more time to find his speedy receivers down field, or to gain those hard earned yards up the middle for that allusive first down that sustains the drive that keeps the defense fresh.

Probably going to be a wet one. Tropical storm Francine is supposed to become a category 1 hurricane by Wednesday and Lake Charles is dead center of its path.

Well first real opportunity is here. Let's see if the Jacks can clean up the little things from last week.

After the game when the team came out of the locker you could hear the same thing coach said in the video. Heard a lot of almost or we had our chances just missed on a few plays.

I think we are in good shape. Really encouraged by the effort and the fight in the team. I'm excited for Saturday.

Lot of new starters on Offense and it will take a little time for them to gel but the talent is there.

Defense looked fantastic against the 6th highest scoring offense in football. Lots of TFLs sacks and INTs. Should only get better from here.

Go Jacks..!!!

I hope you're right. I'm headed to Lake Charles (from Spring) on Saturday. I'm planning on spending the night, sleeping soundly after a Lumberjack victory.

Praise the Lord (and prayers for those not so lucky) Hurricane Francine spared Lake Charles.
Saturday looks like good weather for a football game: https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-forecast/10-day-weather/lake-charles-chennault-afb-la-70601

Hopefully SFA will bring lots of fans to help fill Cowboy Stadium like the Southern fans do.
What a way to start the 2024 SLC conference season with an early season game that is very important to both schools! Much respect between the two, but not a lot of love lost, for sure. Safe travels to all who will be making the trek. If you arrive Friday, don't forget to check out the free block party and, of course, enjoy great tailgating Saturday.

- Friday, September 13th Bag Of Donuts

Starting Tuesday, Keith Zembower has been touching on the game in his daily blog which you can check out here: https://zemsgems.wordpress.com/

Things are rather quiet on the main McNeese fan group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1916611195132328?sorting_setting=CHRONOLOGICAL Maybe because the fans in SW Louisiana were holding their collective breath about the approaching hurricane.

Both McNeese and SFA are posting information on X (formerly Twitter).

Nobody should under appreciate the value of having essentially the same defensive coaching staff for two years in a row.

Just like last wek, Carthel goes for it on 4th down. Hope that strategy doesn't come back to bite them in the end, especially with an All-American kicker.

Well I have watched exactly one series of Vidlak so far, but he looks like maybe the best passer I've seen since Moses. Whether he is a great quarterback, I guess time will tell.

Still baffled how we can never run a play under center. Short yardage runs from 7 yards away have never made sense.

i thought the same thing but it would have been about 52 yards. I've seen campos do that easily, but it's still a good chance to establish momentum. Hopefully we don't do it on 35 yarders.
