SERIES HISTORY (1951-2019)
WINS:13
LOSSES:17
TIES:2
Last time they played was 2019 when McNeese won 33-10 in Nacogdoches.
The Cowboys of McNeese are still looking for their mojo, now with a record of 1-2 early in this season with one close loss to #21 Tarleton State (23-26) as well as their money game against Texas A&M (10-52)
The Cowboys are 1-0 at home with their one win against Southern (7-21)
On offense McNeese feature two quarterbacks in senior Montana transfer and duel threat QB #2 Clifton McDowell 6-5; 233 who has completed 15 passes for 273 yards and 2 TD's while rushing (his strength) and leading the team with 132 yards 4.4 average and 2 more scores.
Also, look for Norman, Oklahoma redshirt freshman QB #6 Kamden Sixkiller 6-4; 203 to get reps as well who has completed 18 passes for 160 yards and a TD.
Both quarterbacks will be well protected by a big offensive line that averages 311 pounds.
As a whole the Cowboy offense has struggled to move the ball averaging only 18 points a game, no wide receivers with over 100 yards receiving and the defense is giving up over 28 (although most of that against Texas A&M)
The Cowboys like to run the ball while averaging 181 yards a game rushing and 151 yards through the air.
On defense you have pre-season All-American junior LB Micah Davey 6-2; 235 who leads the team in tackles with 39, 2.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, and 2 BU.
2023: 1-10
2022: 4-7
2021: 4-7
2020: 3-4
2019: 7-5
McNeese will be looking to end their 4-season losing streak in 2024, and that starts in the SLC with the return of SFA that will be looking to end a streak of their own, as the Cowboys have won 3 straight in the series.
The Jacks should head into Lake Charles with a great amount of confidence and momentum after a great showing defensively on the road against North Texas.
Question is can the Lumberjacks get their offense rolling as well, can the offensive line give Vidlack more time to find his speedy receivers down field, or to gain those hard earned yards up the middle for that allusive first down that sustains the drive that keeps the defense fresh.
