Thanks to Commerce receiver for dumb, drive killing penalty.

Hunter Taylor made a really good point. When Maurer's feet are set he can make any throw. Which makes me really think that knee injury really bothered him last week.

Why do teams...not just SFA...throw a 2 yard pass when you need 4 for the first down???

Wasn't a bad play. That one was just a learning opportunity for Harris. He could've turned it up field and got it but danced a little. Not a big deal. Easily fixable.

That was a mature drive by Brian. He shook the pick off and did a great job leading us down field. And Williams of course has been a DAWG tonight.

I'm at the game. Has the radio or TV guys said why Jarrell Wimbley is not playing, or am I just not seeing him?

They have mentioned a couple of times that we haven't seen Wimbley since first quarter. Said something at half about trying to find out anything on Wimbley.

He came out after a carry early, coach called him off field he was shaking his head looked like he lowered head on previous play to challenge defender.

So announcers say they were told Wimbley has a "problem" and won't return tonight. He is still suited up on sideline. Maybe pissed off the coaches or something?? Or perhaps some minor injury?

Reikel is having the best game of his SFA career. Catching everything thrown his way.

We have so many good receivers on this roster. If Maurer can play like he has all game outside of the one bad throw for the rest of the year, we have a dominant offense.

Harris and Willams all over the field tonight. Reikel as well. Good to see as things will get a lot tougher from here on out.

Really good on our coaching staff. A lot better than a certain school that poaches all our players and then gives the camera to the player who stomped on a players head.

Maurer still needs to develop a better touch on some throws. Outside of the bad pass, he has missed on a few throws for sure. Also has connected on numerous passes tonight. Overall a good night but he does still have a lot of work to do in judging his touch.....and Not staring down the receiver from the snap.

MAURER!!! I love this killer instinct we have this week! Carthel is taking zero chances for a comeback this week.

You're not wrong but I think this game was much needed. A huge confidence booster moving forward is what he needed. A lot of QBs would crumble after last week. He showed a ton of maturity tonight.

Kobe would be proud. Up 42-14 and we're running a hurry up and throwing it. I guess Carthel wants to leave no doubt.

MAURER TO HARRIS!!! Might need to make t-shirts for that.

None of our starters are in anymore. All of their starters are in.

Man poor back to back drives with huge runs erased by holding. Our backups need a little more discipline.

Weeks can really drop some dimes… Making the harder throws in rhythm

Can we play ODU for our money game next year?

Going back to 93s original writeup. We only have to beat Commerce 29 more times in a row to even the SFA/East Texas St/Commerce series!!

Other than the pass over the middle (INT) , Mauer looked good. I just don't understand the play calling. Why go over the middle , with 1:45 seconds left in the 1st half The team looked primed to roll over Commerce before the half ended

Defense had some moments. Real tangible improvement over last year.

My breakdown:

-Maurer played his best game against a really good defense, probably the best FCS defense we've seen if you look at how good Commerce has been at forcing turnovers against good teams this year. He had one really bad throw, but for the most part any off target passes weren't really in danger of being picked and he was throwing some darts. His improvisation is improving a lot too. Really using his mobility on passing plays more.

-Anthony Williams is a hell of a back. We have a two headed monster in the backfield with him and Wimbley, and that will really help us against teams when we really need to control the clock.

-Harris and Rikel will give people fits all year trying to keep them covered. Harris is very fast and hard to keep up with and Rikel is great at getting YAC.

-Our defense is still explosive. The starters only allowed 14 points and that was on a short field after a turnover and a big play in a beautiful counter play. Our pass defense specifically will help us mightily against EKU and ACU. And Luke Watson seems like he's in the middle of every play.

-The offensive play calling was night and day better than last week, with a good mix of plays, nothing felt predictable and they focused on getting passes down field as opposed to bubble screens.

Lots of good things happened tonight for SFA ..... but still plenty of work to do. Next week at Utah Tech will be a whole different story than tonight. Better opponent and thinner mountain air to contend with.
