Why do we have 35 pass attempts to only 16 rushes?

I would say because coaching staff wanted our #1,2 and 3 QB to get in some actual game work.They do need to be prepared for the bulk of the season ahead.

Best thing about this game is it's over, there didn't appear to be any injuries for the Jacks and now the focus should be on Sam and the remainder of the campaign.

Lots of "screen" passes. Not sure what kind of "learning" we were looking for. I didn't get the impression that Carthel was running it up. Not at all. This is simply a regrettable situation. We needed the game. Had we slammed through JSU, Alcorn AND LT, we would have ran the 2nd string out there from the first snap.

Having gone back and replayed parts of the game here are my takeaways on this game.

-No major injuries. This was absolutely key here, and we needed to make sure our guys are gonna be 100% against Sam. I think we did that.

-Self needed this game. Last week was without a doubt his worst game a Jack and that appeared to be because his confidence was badly shaken. He needed a game where he could literally do anything he wanted. We saw last year what a confidence Trae Self can do, and going into the biggest game of the year, we need that 2021 Trae Self to get us that win.

-the defense needed this. Warner was bad. Very bad. But our defense needed to line up against a team and dominate for their confidence. We got to see some packages with our starting defense we haven't seen yet because our team was playing too conservative.

And that's pretty much it. We did exactly what we should've done against this team, and did not make really any stupid mistakes. It sucks we were basically forced to play a team this bad because of Lamar, but I think, as I said, a game like this was needed to give our guys a much needed confidence boost.

The focus now needs to be to take on the Kittens and give them everything we have and say goodbye(for now) to Sam Houston with a statement game.

If we beat Sam, the ship can be considered righted and we can look on to conference play with the confidence we came into the season with.

I agree that Mauer is more athletic. That does not make him a better QB. I think Mauer has a ways to go to pick up the offense, and get in sync with his receivers.

We walked through the Axe 'Em Acres about 4:45. Not many people there, but it was really hot on that parking lot. I like the concept, but it has a ways to go to generate interest. There was a long line at Gate 1 to get the 400 free caps. Saw a few students leaving after they got their caps. Really good crowd of 12,590. From afar, it looked like the tents in the south end were well utilized. Mobile units were packed as usual. Dr. Westbrook made a walk through prior to the game to shake hands and say hello. Ivey walked through during the game. There is now a swag store in the seldom used, NE concession stand location. I did not go to see what they had.

Band, cheer, and dance were in their usual top form. Probably some missed the announcement about the male cheerleader that died a couple of weeks ago. Cheerleaders were wearing purple bows for epilepsy awareness. This has been a tough couple of weeks, as you can imagine.

Yes, Warner was getting on the bus after the game to make the 16 hour or so ride home to Lake Wales, FL. Damn 0-4 Lamar. I continue to wish them, and UIW, ill.

I agree about AxeEm Acres. Having it on a hot surface was not a good idea, as it turned out. I doubt that that will continue. Just too hot! Fraternities did their thing on grass in the usual location. I can't blame them for not moving.

SFA did NOT run up the score, but it won't look that way to 90% of the people who just see the score. The first teamers only played about 1 1/2 quarters. SFA just had too much depth. SFA had 4 QB's throw TD's to 7 different players. In the 4th quarter our 3rd and 4th teamers were able to do anything they wanted, because Warner's guys were just "warn out). (Pun intended.) And on the last TD, the fellow that scored got chewed out because he was told to not score.

Shortened up the game in the second half. The instructions from Carthel were to not score the last touchdown. Hence, the kneel down on the XP.

Where does D3 fit in? I thought it went NAIA->D3->D2->FCS->FBS. Either way, there is a bigger gap between SFA and Warner than there is between Utah and SUU. SFA didn't have a choice because of the punks at Lamar but this was essentially an exhibition game. I hope Warner made a little money.

Where does D3 fit in? I thought it went NAIA->D3->D2->FCS->FBS. Either way, there is a bigger gap between SFA and Warner than there is between Utah and SUU. SFA didn't have a choice because of the punks at Lamar but this was essentially an exhibition game. I hope Warner made a little money.

D3 is Non Scholarship. D2 has 36 scholarships FCS 63 FBS 85 My understanding is that NAIA football averages about $8000-$9000 in scholarships per player up to a level determined by conference. Someone can do more research if they want.

A more accurate look would be FBS>FCS>D2/NAIA>D3>NCCAA (Christian College's)
