Yep. Good to see them rebound. I hope it continues into next week.

That was a tough game considering everything.
The weather. The rain delay. On the road.
I'll go ahead and say I was wrong for my statement about trying Maurer out in the second half. Trae played really good football in the second half and made some really big plays to help us out.
Defensively those halftime adjustments were astounding to only allow 3 second half points after looking so inept to start.

It was one game against a team that only won 6 games last year, but a much needed confidence boost. La Tech will be a challenge but hopefully that confidence is returning to the Jacks and they can play to their potential this coming Saturday.

Don't want to overreact because for as good as today was, we have played 3 good quarters of football out of 7 full quarters, and consistently needs to be established. But that second half was a good sign.

Wow, good news to wake up to!

Not a single stat for Gipson? That seems odd.

Has anyone confirmed what Harmon did?
SFAXE93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, Gipson was shut out, as ASU really had the DB's all over him, Wedman, Rikel, and Thompson all benefited from that and had TDs as all that attention on Gipson left others open.

According to what was heard on the radio when the ref made the call, it was a personal foul, punching a player, and then the ref said something about (pushing) a ref in the same call, and Harmon was ejected from the game.

I'll take W's over stats all day every day. But you HAVE to get Gipson the ball somehow. Screen, jet sweep, anything behind the line of scrimmage...dude is stupid electric.

Gipson was just targeted once by Self, and that was in the 3rd quarter, and it turned into a 15-yard pass interference call against the DB.

Nice to wake up to a win. I had to put it away around 11:00.

We've got to get the passing game going.

First half last night was scary because it was too reminiscent of last weeks game. All the doubts and concerns came charging back. The 2nd half was a totally different story. Offense, while not perfect, came out much stronger and moved the ball. Wimbley is going to be a special running back. Self was better in 2nd half. Biggest 2nd half change was defense showed up and clamped down. Alcorn only had 1 big play in 2nd half, then Jacks regrouped and held them to FG. Special teams punts nailed them to their 1 yard line twice.
No doubt there is much work to be done to have the season we are hoping for but that 2nd half was a good step.

Will be interesting to learn what happens with Harmon. Penalty for throwing a punch at Alcorn player in mini brawl on the Alcorn sidelines....then the 2nd flag which the ref called throwing a punch at official. Did he really throw a punch at a ref? Did a ref step in to break up scuffle and walk into something? Of course there is no defense if he actually threw down at a ref but I hope we will hear a clarification or conformation of events.

A comeback win on the road is a good builder for this group, but next week will require many more forward steps if we hope to take down La Tech.

On the tv broadcast the call from the ref was for pushing a ref

Yes. Unsung heroes in this one were Max Quick and the punt coverage team. In addition to the two downed balls on the one, Quick placed another one that went out of bounds at about the five. Most of the second half was played in Alcorn's end of the field.

The play was on the opposite side of the field in the midst of a scrum, so I couldn't see it. Yes, the first was for throwing a punch, and the second was for pushing a ref.

Lack of discipline is big. Harmon, a single digit guy, losing it. A personal foul on a punt turning the ball back to them. One of the best linemen in the WAC jumping three different times. Not counting his holding penalty that brought back a long run. Alcorn was the team playing their first game of the season. They had more poise than we did.

Just like against JSU, our lines were dominated in the first half. That changed in the second half. Defensive adjustments, and play calling much better in the second half. I don't know that Alcorn wins many games this season, although they have a running back I would take, but we needed this win.

A three hour and twenty minute delay, and some question if the game would be played at all, was tough. There was some discussion about playing it on Saturday, but the weather forecast wasn't any better. Alcorn opened their gym for us to wait in. Hated missing out n the Alcorn band. Was looking forward to that show. With no commercial breaks, a game really moves along. Done in less than three hours.

One of the two downed at the one was a pooch punt by Self. But, your point is well taken. Three of Quick's four punts were downed inside the twenty. Averaged 46.5 yards per punt.

Our kicking game is legit. Although Brown only had one TB from his six kick offs, he gets them high and deep. Excellent coverage kicks. Campos nailed that 47 yard FG. Kicking a wet ball in heavy air didn't bother our guys.

We looked pretty solid on the D-Line last year. Sure there was some dips. All in all it seems like the D-Line has taken a step back.

I don't necessarily think that's it completely but we did lose 3 starters on the line.
The new defense doesn't seem to utilize the same exotic blitz packages we had last year. A year ago every single play someone was coming and someone was dropping into coverage. It caused mayhem and opposing offenses didn't know what to do. This year it seems like we are playing a much more traditional defense which is fine if we can get it down, but does expose any weaknesses we have talent wise a lot more.

I was looking forward to a very aggressive, blitzing defense, but different DC's comes different approaches.

Would love to see this as well, however I must keep in mind it is a new DC. Our schedule has us playing more soldiers than we us, and like we seen against JSU they will "uptempo" us to where we cant be fresh and with that possibly risk being in the wrong place at the wrong time. So we may be more vanilla until after this week, but being simple we should just be concerned with tackling. I cringed yesterday when the first stat line said 22 yd run! My big concern this week is that La Tech knows our 6 offensive plays

Totally open to being corrected, but the Jacks have to be concerned about their defense against the run. After getting clobbered by Jacksonville State's running game, they gave up 285 yards on the ground to Alcorn State. If I were scouting for an upcoming opponent, I would recommend running it down SFA's throat.

Again, I may be totally misreading the situation, but I'm concerned...I expect the coaching staff to address it, but they better sooner than later.
