SFA has a decently easy close on paper. Now is the time to show people where we're going to end up.

Up and down we keep going. Week after week, it’s basically the same story: a team dominates their mid-week game then falls flat on the weekend (or vice versa). It’s a wide open league and apparently nobody can put together much of a winning streak.
2017-18 record: 14-9 (8-2) | Last week: 4
Somewhat taking advantage of only playing once last week, but the Colonels got a dominant win at previous league leader UNO (81-64). Nicholls is now in sole possession of first, but just by a game and have to travel to Abilene this week (and a home game vs HBU).
2017-18 record: 14-10 (8-3) | Last week: 1
The Lions had a double digit loss to surging Corpus Christi-A&M, but ended the week with a nice win over UCA. SLU needs a solid week on the road (UIW, McNeese) to stay at the top.
2017-18 record: 18-5 (7-3) | Last week: 2
The Lumberjacks were embarrassed in Beaumont; no other way to put it. The worst loss in SLC play since 2003, in fact. SFA has struggled on the road, but have arguably their toughest road games behind them. Not sure they can afford another setback if they want to compete for the regular season title. SFA has a Thursday game at McNeese, before getting the Demons at home.
2017-18 record: 14-10 (8-3) | Last week: 5
I think people keep forgetting about the Bearkats, but they keep winning and remain in the hunt for a solid tournament seed. A huge week upcoming for Sam Houston, with Corpus and Lamar in town.
2017-18 record: 12-11 (9-3) | Last week: 3
This is a dangerous time for the Privateers. They haven’t played well against the top of the league and have a really tough schedule to finish the season. They get a little rest this week, but have to travel to Corpus Christi.
2017-18 record: 14-10 (6-5) | Last week: 8
They lost in Huntsville, but did get a nice win over Lamar so they’re edging out the Cardinals here slightly. A huge home game vs Nicholls could give the Wildcats some momentum (in addition to a game with UIW).
2017-18 record: 14-10 (6-5) | Last week: 7 -
Lamar was picked to win the league by a lot of people, and on Saturday we saw why. Arguably the most athletic team to matchup with the Lumberjacks, and they handled them easily at home. If they go 2-0 this week (with a tough game at Sam Houston) the Cardinals will be within striking distance.
2017-18 record: 12-12 (6-5) | Last week: 6
The Bears lost their only Week 6 game (@SLU), and are clinging to the 8th spot and last seed for the tournament. UCA still has the firepower to beat anyone. They have a light week again, but this time a trip to struggling HBU.
2017-18 record: 8-12 (5-5) | Last week: 10
The Islanders are really close to getting into that 8th spot, coming off their 4th win in a row. If they can get wins at Sam Houston and against UNO…look out.
2017-18 record: 8-12 (5-5) | Last week: 9
The Cowboys got a win against Northwestern State, but who hasn’t? McNeese is still in the hunt, but this is a very tough week against SFA and SLU (although both at home).
2017-18 record: 5-18 (1-9) | Last week: 11 -
Time and remaining games are not in favor of the bottom three teams and they’ll shortly be eliminated from contention for the conference tournament. Don’t see a win for the Huskies vs UCA and Nicholls.
2017-18 record: 5-15 (0-10) | Last week: 12 -
The Cardinals were at least competitive against the Islanders, but the loss counts the same. UIW gets SLU at home, then travels to ACU.
2017-18 record: 3-19 (0-11) | Last week: 13 -
Unlike UIW, the Demons were not competitive last week. And this upcoming week doesn’t look any better on paper: Lamar at home then travel to rival Stephen F. Austin.
