HBU has been placed on two years probation by the NCAA along with a public reprimand and recruiting penalties after coach Vic Shealy created an illegal student host program.

Shealy asked his daughter to be a student host, and she recruited members of her sorority to be hosts and give campus tours to recruits. That's a no-no under NCAA rules. (Seems rather mild to me, but it is what it is.) The probation runs through January 18, 2020. Several penalties were placed on Shealy and his staff as to the number and amount of interactions they can have with recruits.

Any progress HBU was making towards being decent is gone now.

Might as well drop them from the Southland at this point. Are they decent in any sport?


Also, that's an awfully dumb rule that I'm sure 90% of big schools violate. Hell, Louisville had an illegal escort hosting program for a few years.

Yep NCAA only goes after small schools. Baylor, MSU, Louisville, large scale cheating at UNC. But they definitely aren't going to let HBU get out of line.
