Portal closes in 6 days on Friday, January 16, 2026 (at the end of the day, typically midnight local time or as processed by schools).

This is the only main offseason window for FBS and FCS football players to enter the portal this cycle, following the NCAA's rule change eliminating the previous spring window.

Key exceptions include:
  • Players on the two teams in the College Football Playoff National Championship game (scheduled for January 19, 2026) get an additional 5-day window from January 2024, 2026, to enter after their season ends.
  • In cases of a head coaching change after the main window closes, affected players receive a separate 15-day window starting 5 days after the new coach is hired/announced.

Common Reasons for Regret when players transfer...
  • Failure to secure a new spot: Only about half of all transfers find a new school to play for, meaning many are left without a team or scholarship.
  • Moving down in level: Of the players who do transfer, nearly 60% of those leaving Power 5 schools end up at a Group of Five or FCS program.
  • Reduced playing time: For the vast majority of positions, players' on-field production (stats) either declines or increases less than their non-transferring peers, suggesting they are often better off staying at their original school.
  • Broken promises: Some players agree to verbal NIL offers that are not in writing and are later not honored, leaving them in a worse financial and athletic situation.
  • Academic and social challenges: Transfers must navigate a new environment, build new relationships with coaches and academic support staff, and face potential issues with credit transfers, all while facing pressure to perform.
  • Misunderstanding their value: Young players sometimes overvalue their potential based on high school rankings rather than college performance, leading to disappointment when Power 4 schools aren't interested without college tape.

Tarleton only have 3 QB's on their roster and 2 of those were true freshmen, and he wants to play for Chris Ross.

The window is slowly closing and most QB's are off the boards having found a new home, some are withdrawing as they don't want to be left with no school when the music stops.

And with Anderson off the boards I wonder if SFA is still looking for another QB to bring in and compete for the job along with Gavin?

There are some QB's with follows from Coach May or Coach Faske on Twitter, but nothing announced as in offers, but maybe that changes now?

These QB's have follows from Coach May or Faske...

QB: Deshawn Purdie 6-4; 230 (Charlotte/Wake Forest) he entered 5 days ago, a former 3-star recruit #83 QB from Baltimore. He was signed by Florida after the 2024 season when he hit the portal, but withdrew and went to Purdue.
