Texas A&M University - Texarkana is set to transition to NCAA Division II.

On February 20, 2025, the university announced via its official X account that it is moving forward with plans to join NCAA D2 athletics, alongside the development of the RRCU Athletic Complex.

This marks a shift from its current affiliation with the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference, where the Eagles have competed since 2016.

While the exact timeline for the transition isn't fully detailed in public statements, such moves typically involve a multi-year provisional membership process under NCAA rules, suggesting full Division II status could be a few years out, potentially around 2027 or 2028, depending on when they officially begin the process.

I view TAMU Texarkana UT Tyler and ETAM are our biggest competitors.

Great place, I wish that was the campus I went to back in 1995-1996 when it was at East Texas State - Texarkana, they became A&M in 1996.

That school is going places with great leadership, partners, facilities, etc.

We (SFA , still have some inherent advantages) like tradition, reputation and vibrant academic community.

With the investment we are now receiving from the UT System I expect us to begin performing much better.

My daughter will graduate from UT Tyler in May and they have focused on the medical community tremendously! From their pharmacy school, new medical school, and a new nursing school building, they are going after those students head on. The campus is wonderful with all on campus sports.
