UIL Deputy Director Jamey Harrison, speaking at the annual THSCA Convention in San Antonio, stated that adding a Class 7-A looks like an inevitability. This is due to rapid growth in the state's major metropolitan areas. He stated that the addition won't happen in the 2022-2024 realignment, but possibly could happen in the 2024-2026 realignment.

I don't really get the need for this, other than they want more playoff teams that you'd get from a 7th class instead of cutting back the 4 per district that seem to be the current rule.
Once you reach a certain size of school, you're really not getting much of a competitive advantage from 500 or 1k more students.
My biggest personal pet peeve is the 2 divisions within each class. It creates some really wonky football districts that always has outlier teams that are an hour or 2 hour drive.

An absolutely great game is on the schedule this week when MaxPreps preseason nationally #1 ranked Mater Dei HS from Santa Ana, CA pays a visit to Duncanville.
Mater Dei is ranked #1 for the third time to start the season in the last five years. They are 45-3 over that time.
As you probably know, Duncanville is no sloutch either. They are 61-8 in the last five years.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 Friday.

There was a very good one last night in the Houston area. Carthage vs.Crosby. Carthage was preseason ranked #1 in 4A. Crosby was a 5A state finalist last year. Carthage pulled it out 27-24 in the last minute with a long kickoff return after Crosby had taken the lead seconds earlier.
Another good one (televised on ESPNU) was Southlake Carroll vs. Highland Park. Carroll showed HP that it's not good to mess with good Class 6A teams. Carroll rolled 45-21.

Humble Atascocita broke Allen's 122-game home winning streak with a 41-20 romp. Allen had not lost at home since Eagle Stadium opened in 2012. It also ended Allen's 84-game regular season winning streak.
