I think we go 7-5, non-conference. And that would be an accomplishment. This is a tough schedule. Really hard.

Good way to be battle tested before conference play and tournament.

It took five match points, but they finished. Life with all these freshmen is going to be that way.

Big test Tuesday night against High Point University at Shelton with two defending conference champions going at it.

Southland Conference Champion favorite vs. Big South Conference favorite

HPU (2-1) defeated Wake Forest in an exhibition game to start the 2024 season, followed by Fairfield, and Southeastern Louisiana.

Last night they played #16 BYU for their first loss, but played the #16 team pretty well, winning the first set 28-26, then going 12-25; 18-25; 22-25.

In 2023 HPU had a record of 23-8; 14-0 and were crowned Big South Champions, with a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The roster returns

Dylan Maberry 6-1 (G/Sr.) 2X first team All Big South Conference and 2X Big South POY
Arica Blocker 6-0 (Sr.) Also played at Ohio State and Minnesota (Big 10 All Freshman Team)
Eve Wilson 6-3 (So.) Big South Freshman of the Year and 1st Team All Conference player
Allie Gray 5-11 (Sr.) Big South Setter of the Year and 1st Team All-Conference player
Jordyn Schilling 5-11 (Jr.) First Team All-Conference and pre-season Libero of the Year

They are a little young after that with 7 freshmen on the bench.

This would be a nice feather in the hat for SFA.

Not complaining at all! It was an exciting set to watch & I could see the athletes learning & being coached by Debbie during this game....SFA VB will be good for years to come! I was just exhausted after lol

Did some research and High Point is totally legit. Numerous 20+ win seasons over the past 10 years. Loads of conference championships. Great test. A win against HPU would be a big deal.

This is an update regarding the broadcasting at UTEP. Our first 2 matches will be streamed on YouTube and Greg will have the radio broadcast through sfavolleyblog.net. For the Saturday match vs UTEP, there is a FB game that night, so there will be radio only with Greg. We hope you will be able to tune in & join us in what should be quite a high level weekend.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 3, we host High Point. They are the top team in the Big South Conference & this should be a really fun match. We need to pack SG and make High Point extremely uncomfortable! If you can't be here, the match WILL be broadcast on ESPN+ at 6:00 p.m.

Thanks!

Watched parts of all 3 sets. Wow. These are mostly fresh and soph's with a couple of juniors sprinkled in. Some really tough tests coming up in UTEP and OU. Air Force won't be a piece of cake either.

Solid win, and a win that should age well for SFA's (RPI) as the season progresses with High Point winning 20+ games and their conference title as they are expected to do.

UTEP also has a football game on Saturday. They apparently don't have the resources to do both.

High Point is a big, talented, experienced team. Just watching them warm up, we could see they are good. We dominated the first two sets, playing better than we did in any set in Huntsville. We took the foot off the gas in the third set, and they played closer to their capability. Our freshmen get better every match. The crowd was large and engaged.

They travel to El Paso on Wednesday for three matches. UTEP, on Saturday, is easily one of the three best teams we play this season.
