Well, there clearly weren't that many people in seats. I have no idea how they are counting this game.

I'll gladly take an over report in numbers.

I may well be off but isn't the "capacity" at WRJ 7200?? That's the number I recall.

Thats what it was before the renovation for the new tunnel and "loge" section. I'm not sure what we lost there but i believe it was at least 100 seats.

The friendly Cowboy fans that walked past me after the game said we will certainly get what is coming to us at the tournament! Apparently they were upset that there was some emotions showing after the game between the benches!

It really sucks that the tournament is held in Lake Charles. I think the 1 Seed should always be the host.

And McNeese will host the tournament through 2029. That deal was made while SFA was in the WAC. What were the sheep schools in the SLC thinking?!?!

Consider it a penalty for leaving and coming back. After 2029, McNeese should never host the tournament again.

Great game and atmosphere. Crowd was great at the end. Sawmill was loud. Can't say enough how Christmas plays on the court. He had 4 points and 10 big rebounds. Great defense by that young man. He leaves it out on the court. Keon what can u say. Leading the way with 21 points.

Jacks are 20-3!

It was loud enough I was losing my mind with a girl screaming behind the broadcast booth. Haha

I wondered if people in the coliseum could hear her. She was louder than anything on TV.

Uncalled for slam at SFA's cheerleaders/dance team. You should be mature enough to just let it go.

As usual. It was all about the money. Deep corporate and individual pockets in and around Lake Charles, as well as McNeese's new facilities. Influenced that decision back in 2023.

There were SFA students and a set of football players laughing at their own male dancers last night. Wasn't just us getting a good laugh.

That's why our teams are listed under Co-Ed Sports on our website. Take it from a Dance Dad, these guys and girls work their butts off so it is very much a sport!
Crap, they don't even recognize their dance teams on their sports website at all!

Not going to pretend males on a dance team for college girls is normal, that's y'all's fantasy world. Takes away from the girls that work hard. What is wrong with girls having their own dance team?

Look I always enjoy Nac, it's like going back in time to the 80's. But the motels aren't enough to host the tournament.

To compare your 10 girl dance team with the 46 member SFA co-ed dance team, with members from six different states, is an apples and oranges comparison. Ours is not a dance team for college girls. It is a dance team for college students. And, it's being led by one of the best choreographers in the business.

SFA also has a growing dance program in the College of Fine Arts with both male and female students.

Twenty three national championships compared to the two 10th place finishes that McNeese has listed under their accomplishments. Apples and oranges.

No one's suggesting that the tournament be in Nacogdoches, or on any school's home gym. Use a NEUTRAL SITE. Even in a big city that has an SLC school, like Beaumont or Houston. Just not on a college campus. That is grossly unfair to all of the schools.

That's a lie, amigo. I'm a season ticket holder and attend lots of games each year. I have NEVER seen SFA students or fellow SFA athletes laughing at our dance team or cheerleaders. Those dancers are athletes in SFA's Athletic Department.

Yes, for many years (15 years) from 2008-2022 at the Leonard Merrell Center, before moving to Lake Charles in 2023, where McNeese has won 2 of the last 3 Championship Games on their home court, and is booked to be there until 2029.

This was part of the agreement to keep McNeese in the SLC when they wanted to leave.

  • The "Survival" Deal: In 2021, when the Southland was losing members to other conferences, McNeese was courted by the WAC and Conference USA. To convince McNeese to stay and keep the conference "afloat," the SLC granted them guaranteed hosting rights for the basketball, baseball, and softball tournaments.

McNeese's own coaching staff and athletic department have openly acknowledged the edge this provides.

  • Will Wade's Perspective: McNeese former head coach Will Wade called it the "best setup in the country," noting that playing only two home games to reach the NCAA Tournament is a "huge advantage" that no other team in the nation has.

that shouldn't have been part of the deal. Someone dropped the ball on that one.

It is generating revenue for the SLC $5.3M having it in Lake Charles and that is all that Chris Grant cares about right now.

So as long as the money flows and the ESPN contract (signed up until 2031) stays, Lack Charles (where McNeese has won 26 straight conference home games) is where the tournament will remain.

Extreme Competitive Imbalance
  • Built-in Scoring Edge: Historically, home-court advantage provides a boost of 3 to 6.4 points per game, a margin that often decides tight championship contests.
  • Referee Bias: Studies on home-court advantage suggest that officials are often by a raucous home crowd, leading to a higher frequency of calls favoring the home team.
  • Unfair Scouting Path: A host team like McNeese enjoys the luxury of sleeping in their own beds, practicing on familiar rims, and maintaining a routine, while every other team must deal with travel fatigue and unfamiliar settings.
Damage to the "Product"

  • Predictability Kills Interest: Fans are drawn to the "randomness" and "upset potential" of March Madness. When a tournament is held at a neutral site, upset probability increases significantly; conversely, a permanent home site makes the outcome feel predetermined, which can dampen national TV ratings and casual fan interest.
  • Sparse Neutral Games: While McNeese games are sellouts, games between two other conference members at the Legacy Center often suffer from a lack of atmosphere as fans from Texas or other parts of Louisiana are less likely to travel to an opponent's "house" for a neutral matchup.
Strategic and Political Risks

  • Recruiting Disadvantage: Rival coaches in the SLC now have to recruit against the fact that McNeese has a guaranteed "viable path" to the NCAA Tournament that no one else in the country has. This can make it harder for schools like Lamar or SFA to land top-tier talent.
  • Conference Alienation: If other schools feel they are being used merely as "revenue generators" for a McNeese-centered league, the risk of schools leaving for more "fair" conferences (like the WAC or ASUN) increases, potentially destabilizing the very conference the deal was meant to save.
