Watched the Lamar-McNeese game last Friday night.
Larry Johnson is certainly the straw that stirs the drink for the Cowboys. Just a Freshman, he averages 16.6 point per game and 4.7 rebounds. He's not a great outside shooter, but our defense cannot allow him to attack the rim. If we can make Johnson a perimeter shooter, it's going to be a good night.
Tayshawn Archie and DJ Richards are their 3 point threats. Archie is very adept at penetration in the lane and creating opportunities.
Against Lamar, the Cowboys ran a ton of 2-2-1 full court trap. They'll also trap in the half court. Man to man otherwise. That's their M.O., they want to speed you up and create turnovers. However, if we can take care of the ball, we should have good looks from three. For Lamar, Holifield was 6 of 12 from three, but the rest of team was 3 for 17. A vast majority were open looks.
McNeese does not have a ton of height, so we should be very competitive on the boards.
If we keep the turnovers to single digits, hit a decent share of our three point looks and stop dribble penetration on defense, I like our chances.
