Another stat that surprised me was getting two more points in the paint. They had some big dudes.

Burton, Patrick, and Narit (sorry doubt I'm ever getting that last name right) are legitimate outside shooting threats. Someone has to stay out with them or they're going to pull the trigger. Heck, they've shown they still will even guarded.

That is clearly opening the paint for Keon, Colonel and our other bigs.

The next month of play is important for this young team. This year's schedule is about as soft as SFA has drawn. Early, the only team ranked ahead of us is McNeese. In the next month we play every team ranked in the top 200 currently that we have slated.

Consistency is the only thing we have to impress the outside world (aka new recruits) with. We have to take advantage.

None of the upcoming 3-4 is a "layup".

ACU - It doesn't matter the records etc. ACU will fight
Fresno - Not great but still a MWC team
Pepperdine - Another WCC stalwart.
UT Arlington - If we shoot like we have , this is a win.

Going 3-1 in this stretch would be outstanding.

Last night was a cleansing for me as a graduate and fan of SFA. The Kyle Keller era started out with so much promise. I was certain that he was as good as gone in February 2020 as we were heading to a Cinderella-esque season after getting the improbable win at Duke and likely at least a 12 seed. After COVID it seemed like he was resigned to the fact that his best chance to move to a Power 5 job was in the past. The following seasons led to good but not great results and what seemed like an annual disagreement with one of our better players that led to a mid-year suspension. The offense seemed stale and even though we called ourselves "Press U" the moniker did not truly fit our defense.

The Rice game reminded me of the Brad Underwood era. Tenacity and movement were readily evident. This team "works" and Keon Thompson reminds me of Kevon Harris 2.0. Keeping him in the program was a massive off-season victory for Braeuer. Can't wait to see what transpires over the next few months and for the possibility of our name being called on Selection Sunday once again.

Well said,
The last SFA game I was physically at was last seasons loss to HCU. What a difference a few months makes(!). My brother and I were in attendance and as we watched them handle Rice, we reflected and drew comparisons to Kasper (defense), Underwood and early Keller teams as well as Thompson/Harris comparisons. As we were making our way out, a surprised Rice fan asked about our team. I told him we have a new coaching staff and 13 new players and that I was just as surprised as he was.
I am now very much looking forward to this season.

The difference in the team this year versus last year is night and day. Really happy how a number of players are stepping up. The outside shooting is terrific. Colonel has been fantastic in the paint with the blocks. I really think in about another 5 games you are going to see a couple more of these kids get adjusted to Division 1 ball and start contributing big time. Two undefeated teams going at it tomorrow night. I think the Jacks are going to get the Big W!

. I will be looking over my shoulder for the ghost of Arian Simmons to show up. Maybe CC broke that curse with that mega block in the WAC tourney a couple years ago where Cajuste hit that game winner.

We are now back to expecting to win, not hoping to win.

Agreed about Arian Simmons. Didn't he and his clone play at ACU for about 10 years?
