SFA (4-3) vs. University of Louisiana-Monroe (3-5)

WHEN: 11/29 (FRI) 6:30P.M.
WHERE: Fant-Ewing Coliseum (Monroe, LA)
WATCH: ESPN+

The SFA Lumberjacks have put together a two game winning streak after knocking off Monmouth and Youngstown St. at home. Now they're on the road for a Black Friday matchup with the Warhawks of ULM.

ULM, like the Lumberjacks, have not been playing up to their potential this year. An upperclassmen team, they have lost to SELA, escaped Northwestern St. on a last second bucket, and got waxed by North Alabama. They are an inside team with all of their damage being done close to the basket. They are great at drawing fouls, even if they don't shoot them well.

The Jacks may be figuring things out, but this road game will be the test. Defense finally started to lead to offense when the Jacks stopped Youngstown for almost nine scoreless minutes. Good pressure with a little offensive efficiency is all the Jacks need for a victory.

Unbutton those jeans, sit in the recliner, and relax for an after-Thanksgiving evening of SFA basketball.

I saw him at the Ladyjacks game after he got injured. No sightings since then. Hopefully nothing major.

I'm definitely concerned about the status of Chris Johnson. The other two injured point guards have been showing up for games. I hope Johnson has not left the team. He is one of the few that can create shots.

As I recall Sylla did not play in the last 2 of the home MTE after the first game loss. Don't know if he is hurt or in the doghouse.

9 point Jack lead at 13+ minutes is now a 43 all tie at 11:46 left in half. We are still very inconsistent and have run right up on the 30 second shot clock several times.

Hayman finishes with 27 points. ULM didn't score a FG in the last 6 minutes+ of the game.
Road win always good to get.

SFA only has 5 games between now and Dec 31st. Maybe a chance for injured Jacks to return by January??

Didn't get to watch the entire game, so I can't comment with any depth. So for me the result is just fine. Team is starting to look like a team.

Nice road win tonight. Really like how the guys are coming together and playing defense. Jenkins with 11 points. I like when he drives to the rack, He had some nice lay ins. Stone plays strong. 7 rebounds. Matt with the huge game. He has to keep it up going forward. The Jacks need a true point guard and another shooter from the outside. Here's hoping when Keon hits the court that he plays like The Juice! I miss AJ!

Over the past four games, Nana is averaging 36 minutes of court time. That is a huge amount for a big guy, and almost 5 minutes more than the next player. He's become an essential cog. Can he last at this rate?

Christmas feels like an engine for the team, but I'm still waiting for him to plug in fully. He's clearly shining best on defense. I would love to see him find his offense.

Nana playing 36 minutes a game. Iron Man. If Nana goes down then the Jacks are left with Southwick and a 7' ter that Coach doesn't play. Maybe Sylla isn't ready but still he needs to get some minutes. Just in case something happens.

You point out the same things that concern me. Nana's time on the floor. I just don't see Sylla as a viable option for more than 5-6 minutes a game. And that's a stretch.

Last season it seemed like Christmas started to peak later in the season. Like the last 7-8 games. Maybe my recollection is off. This team has upside with a point guard ……

Exactly on point guard. Jacks need to get Keon on the court. That will solve a lot of issues. This team can be really good. Also, whatever is going on with Chris Johnson needs to be resolved. We need the kid back. He possibly could be the best player on the team.

One thing that kind of goes unnoticed on this team. Southwick has improved enough to be a reliable backup. His dribbling is better and sometimes his defense can be actual D1 quality. Against some of our competition Southwick can hold most of the ground that Nana occupies.

The other, Nana has clearly taken the leadership role that this team needs. He's not just a physical presence but he seems to mental approach that rubs off on the team.

Is it reasonable to ask if this is an injury issue or compatibility with the SFA/MBB program ?

I agree. But I don't think Sylla needs to get more than 4-5 a game maximum. I do believe Southwick could maybe deliver 11-12 solid minutes a night of solid contribution. That might get Nana closer to 32 minutes on the floor. But he's proven to be part of a winning mix when he's playing solid.
