SFA (10-5,3-1) vs. Utah Tech (6-9,2-2)
WHEN: 1/11 (THU) 8:00P.M.
WHERE: Burns Arena (St. George, UT)
WATCH: ESPN+
Being 10-5 feels a lot better than 5-5. The Lumberjacks pulled off a clean sweep in the first week of 2024 to extend their winning streak to 5. They now head to the Beehive State for two games starting with the Trailblazers of Utah Tech.
Utah Tech is one of those WAC teams that consistently underperforms despite having some key pieces for success. They had a great first week of December where they knocked off Utah Valley and Cal Baptist to start 2-0, but since they can't really buy a good game. For having a 6' 10" forward as their best player, they are not good around the rim coming or going. They shoot a lot of threes and free throws but don't make too many. They are not particularly better at home.
The Jacks split their Utah trip last year winning their first at Utah Tech. However, the Trailblazers had the last laugh picking off the Jacks in WACVegas in a very lackluster performance from the better seed.
The Jacks just put together their most focused 40 minutes of the season last time out. Despite no Jossell, offense looked solid and the defense was physical. Everyone played their part. Now the hope is that it becomes a consistent occurrence.
The Jacks are still in their run through the bottom of the league this week. They need to continue to separate themselves from it and ride this winning wave.
