SFA (4-3) vs. Northwestern St. (5-2)
WHEN: 12/1 (THU) 8:00P.M.
WHERE: William R. Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
The last four games have been interesting for the Lumberjacks. On paper, we beat the two stronger teams (at least as seen prior to the contests) and lost to the two weaker teams definitively. Matchups, depth, and shooting confidence appeared to overcome heart and system in the four games. But, the Jacks are coming home stronger than they left.
They return to face our rivals from our sister city, the Demons of Northwestern State. The Demons have not been favored in any of their 6 D1 games, yet they are 5-2 on the season with a terrific win over #15 TCU. They are atop the Southland and always give SFA trouble regardless of their record. It will be no different Thursday night.
Northwestern St. is lead by a trio of guards: Haney, Sharp, and Black who all average over 12 points a game. They play small for the most part though they do have the tallest player we'll see this year in the absolutely massive 7'3" Jordan Wilmore. The Demons have rolled off four straight as underdogs and they won't be favored against the Jacks.
Shooting woes for a shooting team really seemed to slow the trip to Canada for the Jacks, but back at home, expect to see some of the fire to come back. Jossell's return should be a stabilizing force especially if his presence can help steady Posey who has had a rough few games.
Like always Nana and Hall will have a huge load to lift down low, but look for Armbrester to start to pull some weight on the boards. The Demons are one of the worst shooting and rebounding teams in the nation, but ironically they are really good on the offensive glass. Shoring up second chances is going to be a huge key to the game.
Come out to watch the Ladyjacks take down #23 Gonzaga at 5:30, but enjoy your evening with the Lumberjacks serving up some cooked meat pies in the late show.
