SFA (15-8, 7-4) vs. Chicago State (6-17, 2-8)
WHEN: FEB 10 (THURS) 7:00P.M.
WHERE: Jones Convocation Center (Chicago, IL)
WATCH: ESPN+
The Lumberjacks are in the midst of their longest win streak of the year against D1 competition. Guys have been figuring out their roles, intensity has come up, trust in each other has been building. On paper the Jacks are in their easiest two weeks of the season, and they are looking to coast and get stronger.
The Chicago State Cougars stand in the way of the Jacks' good feeling. The Cougars hadn't won a WAC conference game in two years before they were able to get a home win on a buzzer beater against CBU last month. Then they got their first conference road win in FIVE years by beating winless Lamar. The last two games they played ACU and Tarleton to the wire. Something has been building with the Cougars and they don't want the Jacks to stop it.
The Cougars have been experimenting with lineups all year, but they seem to have found something that works. Led by Brandon Betson (6' 1", G, Jr.) the young Cougars are starting to dig their numbers out of the basement. They are not a good shooting team, but they put up a lot of threes when their inside game isn't working. They are one of the smallest teams in the WAC and they foul bigs a lot. This game could come down to foul shooting.
The Jacks have momentum right now after three very good wins. The fear is that SFA will see these back to back games with Chicago St. to be a time to take it easy. This is the time to get dominant. Kensmil and Solomon are starting to look like the unstoppable combo we knew they could be. This game should be a chance to put an exclamation mark on their power.
Jacks will get more than they expect from the 2-8 Cougars, but it should be a happy homecoming for Jossell and the Jacks.
