SFA [RV] (25-3, 16-1) vs. Lamar (16-13, 10-8)
WHEN: FEB 29 (SAT) 4:30P.M.
WHERE: William R. Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
This is it Jacks fans - just two home games left. This is the time of year that you long for and dream about. Your SFA Lumberjacks have dominated the Southland, and now's your chance to see them do what they do on their home court. Come out today and yell. But, with the double bye and regular season title in hand, this is not a victory lap. Work is being done. The Jacks want everyone to know they are one of the best teams in the country, and they are still hungry.
Tic Price and the Lamar Cardinals have always been a thorn in Keller's tenure. Last time in Beaumont was the first win there for anyone in the current program save Nate Bain. But like so many firsts this season, this team went and took what they wanted coolly. Expect today's game to come with a little more fire.
The Cardinals have a shot to still get a bye in Katy, but that means they have to win today. (UCA despite being behind Lamar in the standings is actually in better spot for stealing it from Sam.) The problem Lamar has faced all year is depth. They really only have seven guys to work with who play with any strength. Their starting five is better than most, but they tire in a strong physical game like the Jacks give. They also can't foul. There's no back up for them to play tough.
Today, the Jacks plan is to play tough. To go right into the teeth of the Cardinals and make them work hard and foul. Like last game, it will probably make for a slow slog of a game, but the plan will pay off in the end. We didn't have Bain last game, and speed and paint play is where it's at. Oh, and did I mention the Jacks don't like these guys. They want to crush them. They want to forget the past. They want to say at home, "We're the class of the Southland."
Bench play has really started to come alive. I expect we will see some solid rotation. Our freshmen will probably get some good minutes. Cam is looking to get back to form. Daniels isn't just playing second fiddle. David knows he's going to be a leader soon. These guys want to show they can be as good as any starting five.
I doubt they will cut down the nets today if they win. (Who knows though? Underwood and Kaspar did on clinching games.) They will probably wait until senior night next Saturday. But, do you want to miss that? You better come out and see just in case, and bring some friends.
