Ok random internet people who are Jacks fans. I've a conundrum that I need advice with.

For Christmas, my wife gave me a trip to see the Jacks in the first round of the NCAA tournament if they qualify. Of course, neither one of us put two and two together and checked a calendar. It turns out the Friday through Sunday of the first round weekend, I have a big guitar show that I have been prepping for over the last five months.

So, I'm trying to make a decision. I have three options to try for.

1.) Go to Katy. The Jacks have already qualified and are on the inside track for a double bye (at least I feel good about it). So almost for sure a Friday game and hopefully a Saturday championship. Bonus, is the Ladyjacks will be there as well, so I could cheer for both teams. Two championships?!?

2.)Skip Katy. Hope for NCAA's. Miss top guitar show for Jack support against 4/5 seed (hopefully). This is what I've been wanting to do for years - support the Jacks in the first round of the tourney. I've been stoked since receiving my gift, and the realization that I had a big conflict was a major bummer. My boss can technically handle the show by himself, but this is one of two major shows for my year. I will disappoint people if I don't attend.

3.) Long play. Skip Katy, skip first round. Bet on a Sweet 16 berth. OK. Obviously this is a long shot. Maybe in another post I will examine the realistic possibilities of making the Sweet 16. It's not zero, but it's not high. However, the fan experience would be off the charts! I could probably die happy as a Jacks fan if this happens. The best parlay ever. Or I could bust.

So there it is. Three options from doable to riskier. There is a more responsible way, but I'm wondering what y'all would do as true fans. Any way, I'll document my experience for the site.

Let me know.

Oh man, such a tough decision.

Isn't the guitar show big for business? That makes it tough to skip.

I'd say see if you can drive down to Katy for atleast the championship game & bet on number 3 or see about scheduling for next year.

Or here's a darkhorse contender:

4. Skip guitar show. Take custom guitar to First Round & pretend to play it in stands. Wear shirt with Guitar Company's website. Profit.

I feel your pain. The last twenty plus years I have been going to the boys state basketball tourney with family. It's a highlight of every year. We are a hard core basketball family. Watching three full days of basketball and eating great food. This year it's falls on same weekend as Katy. I want to be at both. Ryan, think they would postpone that guitar show one week for you?

Well, I don't want to bring you down but the realist in me says the guitar shop is a 2 person gig as I recall, therefore making it hard to skip.
Katy is solid as both teams will be there and both have legitimate shot at winning it all. Number 3 is a much longer shot and could leave you attending no post season ball.
In your case I would take Katy---and then if #3 happens perhaps you could work a deal with the gift giver and hit the road for a sweet 16 game.

Go to Katy. Putting food on the table for your flock of females supersedes pleasure. Besides, there's a 99% chance that the 2020-2021 Jacks will be in the Big Dance and you can go then. Get a rain check.

BTW, I will also have to miss Katy for the first time in a while, since I'll be at the UIL tournament, too. My son, who is coming home from Afghanistan next week, wants to go. I used to take him to the UIL tournament every year when he was just a tadpole.

That is the vibe I go for. Haven't quite convinced my wife yet, but I've only been working on it 20 years. Give it time.

I think if it were me I would go for #2. It's a great opportunity to have an experience you will remember for the rest of your life, and people who will be disappointed by your absence at the guitar show will get past it. If your boss can handle it, I'd definitely pass to go see the Jacks.

One more thing. Someone mentioned going to the guitar show and planning to go to the NCAA tournament next year. After what I went through with my health the last several months, I'd like to just say that we are never promised a next year - GO FOR IT!

Good life advice for anyone!

Hope the recovery is going well!

Well thanks for all the advice. I'm still not 100%, but I might make it to Katy. My wife says if the Jacks make the Sweet 16 for the first time, that takes things up to another level of category. So I might swing that if I do go to Katy anyway.

Thank you. I am still getting better every day. I have been attached to a wound vac since December 4, which the dr said would come off at the end of April. Once again I feel like a miracle has been granted - the wound specialist removed it Friday!! I can finally walk without having anything attached to me and without a walker. It's been a long time getting here, but I'm almost back to normal. I'm even trying to make it back home to East Texas in time to see a BB game!!

Hard to tell anyone to miss an important work event.

BUT, I will tell you attending the first weekend of the NCAA in general as a sports fan is simply incredible. And then I'll tell you seeing the 'Jacks at the same time is a completely different level. And seeing them win? Nothing can compare.

Option 5...

Go to the Final Four and Championship game.

On a serious note...that is a tough decision.

Had the chance to see them in Dallas vs Texas Tech, the game minus a couple minutes was incredible

I was at that one, too. Up in the nose bleed section, but the atmosphere was incredible. There were LOTS of Tech fans who couldn't believe what little ol' SFA was doing to their team. Oh, to have finished off that one....

There were a lot of Tech fans around me that were not so sure of things when Kevon hit that 3 at the end of the first half!

Djfs...is right, life is short. So here's a different take, a) go where you can make the most difference in someone else's life or b) for a custom guitar, I'll work the show for you. (P.s, can't be 4 string tenor guitar)

Side note, wait and see what happens and see what the scheduling looks like. Tournament starts on Thursday, where you could get lucky and make the first game and back to the show on Friday. Means some quick and probably red-eye flights, but I've done it before.

This. I am a planner and I am off for Spring Break this week, so I will be able to go any where. Was kinda bummed a couple years ago that it was in Dallas but also excited to have more SFA in the stands.

So, if we go to the tourney, I am ready for whatever this year, too. If not, I'll probably take a quick trip to NOLA and forget my troubles there. Lol

I gave Vanessa the option of going anywhere in the US for her 21st or me spending $$ and getting good tickets for us to enjoy the tournament. Y'all know what she picked. With that being said, I agree with our out of state Lumberjack, Life is too Damn Short and you never know what is gonna happen (to you or the team). After having the season that we did last year, I'm just happy we are having these conversations and have the opportunity!
