My only hope now is that we finish above .500. Seems like a bit more of a drop than I expected. I get it ,,, new coach , young players Blah blah. If we can go 5-3 down the stretch that would be positive.

I think from 2 down, the conference is wide open and remember, UNO lost earlier this week, so we are still just a game back from the two seed. I think the formula to beat UNO is out there, so we just need to win the games we are supposed to down the stretch.

@ NWST - Win, only if our defense shows up.
vs. UIW - Win
vs. Lamar - Win
@ SELA - Not sure what to think about the Lions. They are hanging around, and have defended their home court well. Not a game I feel is a sure win like it used to be...
@ UNO - As long as the Privateers continue to struggle from the perimeter, we should win.
@ UCA - Their offense at home scares me. Not sure we get out of that one unscathed
vs. NWST - Win
vs. Sam - Win

I'm sorry, but when I see "players weren't prepared"

That's a reflection of coaching.

The staff has not impressed me with any ability to show adjustments in game.

Overall we didn't play that bad, stats were basically even down the line with Sam. Nobody normally likes to give credit to the other team, but Sams defense deserves a lot of credit for our offensive woes. The long stretch to start the second half was brutal, but if this game was played a month or two ago we would have lost by 20+. Forced just as many turnovers and had more assists last night. Getting out rebounded and not getting any threes to fall until the last minute was the deciding factor. Canete and Traylor a combined 2-10 and 9 points can't happen.

Sadly, I just can't pick us to win any road games right now. However securing at least a single bye for the tourney is crucial. The back to back road trip to SLU and UNO scares me, but those are huge games that can get us a double bye.

The away game issues scream out "preparation". That screams out coaching. The Jacks have improved in the past three weeks but still have miles to go to be back at Danny levels. I'm not even looking for Brad levels ------ that won't happen under Keller. He's to much of a "Buddy" to the players.

That'll take us to a certain level but not to the heights I think we all hope we get back to. We've got a good a recruiter and motivator. X's and O's TBD.

So what exactly are your expectations for this team? Kaspar had a losing record his first two years here and took him 8 years to win the league (I sat through 4 years of that, some years not even making the conference tourney). Underwood obviously adopted a ridiculously good team with 2 PoYs. Keller probably won't be a better Xs and Os coach than BU, he already said that and there will probably never be a coach in this league that will achieve what he did in three years. Keller adopted nothing close to that and with what he has to work with in his first year has definitely shown improvement from when the season started. Season isn't over and we're tied for 3rd and in line for a bye in the tournament with a decent shot at a double bye. To expect anything better than that is pretty unrealistic to me.

IMO we win that game at home...they look beatable to me. I think we definitely get some revenge come March 3rd...will definitely try and be there.

I don't know why people on here are always so quick to blame the coach. 1 game ago everyone was singing his praises. 1 game later he is just a "recruiter and cant coach". Can we give this guy at least one season? If we win the next two games the same people calling for his head, will be saying he is improving has a coach.

I admit Keller is not doing great but he has had less to work with than BU had in his first year. BU's best players where all Kasper recruits. BU only left us with Cameron (Who has improved so much this season). It sucks to be bad, but i think our expectations were too high at the start.

This season isnt over yet and we have great recruiting class coming in next.

The record is only 1/3 of it. When I watch them I don't see the type of cohesiveness that I would expect at this point. The other part is his rotation. I'm confused with his rotation patterns.

In retort Kaspar inherited a **** hole. Keller inherited a team with some mojo and success. I sat thru a lot of Kaspar growth. I'm a big fan of Danny. To answer directly what my expectations are: 1) finish with a winning record. 2) show. Meaning 3rd place ------ 4th place perhaps. 3). Show measurable improvement in ball handling (that seems to be happening although at a glacial pace) 4) take out the trash (beat the lower half of the SLC with giving me heart murmurs.

Does that explain my thoughts ? Are they outside of reasonable?

Not me. I've been consistently confused by Keller!!! And.... while being critical I'm not calling for his head. I think he deserves 2 or 3 seasons to be fully evaluated.

If anyone's interested, I posted my trip log over in the Roadtrip subforum or you can just click here.

Also, my two cents on the coaching. I thought every one of BU's road games in Sam Houston were ugly. The second year, I believe, was almost unwatchable - and yet they still won. We had plenty of games in his tenure where some guys couldn't hit the side of a barn to save their life. We just had more playmakers. I think there's a bright future here - I just wish TJ's would get around to being here.

If T.j doesn't play good, we usually don't win. If Ivan has a bad night then Traylor or Charles can come in. But we have no one to replace T.J or even do half of his work

I'm not going to consistently throw Keller and the coaching staff under the bus. They don't dictate turning the ball over and putting the ball in the hoop. This is a team that has 2 returning starters from last years team, and 1 of them didn't play max minutes. Nine minutes without a bucket guys! Ty Charles in my eyes has been a complete bust for this program. Someone mentioned Kellers rotation and theyre right about it. How can he have any kind of set rotation when NO ONE has any kind of cosistentcy. Someone needs to step up and be some kind of leader. Holyfield and Ty Charles need to step up to the plate.

This is getting to be too funny...

Ty a bust? He has missed an overwhelming majority of the season with a significant injury. An injury that has continued to hamper him, and he is still one of our top contributors.

TJ needs work. No doubt about that, he needs to toughen up physically and emotionally, but we need to remember that he is still just a sophomore. There is still a lot for him to learn, and he is looked at as a leader at a very young age. A lot to put on him.

As for what Keller inherited, it isn't what BU got when Danny left. All we have back is TJ, Dallas, and Ty. Can't even count Bain because he is out for the year.

There have been head scratching moments, but I can't call Keller a boom or bust after one year. We have an entirely new crop of players and a completely new system. A lot has gone on this year, and with everything that has changed, I can't say I'm devastated with the results. Was my expectation another conference title (Regular season & Tourney)? Absolutely, but I can't sit here and say he is a bad coach because we have potentially failed to reach one of those expectations. He needs time to get things his way and his system in place, and with his recruiting ability, I don't see us falling off the map talent wise if Keller turns out to be a bust as a coach...

I agree with Cboothe09. We have talent but in college basketball experience matters unless you are a "one and done." It takes time. The last 3 National player of the Year have been seniors. Experience somethings can overcome pure talent. We have talent we just need experience. I would take Kevon and T.J two years from now over any current seniors playing for Sam or UNO .

What i'm really worried about is fan support. Hopefully fan support does not deteriorate because of our record.

My guess is that we range from being modestly satisfied with this year to modestly dissatisfied with this year. I for one did not expect a 23 - 6 regular season triumph. Closer to 18 - 11 overall and 12 - 6 in conference. So yes I'm a little underwhelmed. I am NOT calling for Keller's head while questioning his rotation capabilities.... Is that fair. I think so. Are we improving? FOR SURE. Is it fast enough? I don't know.....

All I can say is "Chill out, guys". The cavalry is on the way. Not sure if "the cavalry" is in the form of a new-found ability to score down the stretch this year, or if it's in the form of a couple of live, breathing pure shooters arriving next year, but they are acomin'.
