SFA (1-0) vs. North Carolina Central (0-0)
WHEN: NOV 9 (SAT) 1:30 P.M.
WHERE: Johnson Coliseum (Nacogdoches, TX)
WATCH: ESPN+
After coming off their first win and D3 tune-up, the Lumberjacks will be at home for their first D1 action against the Eagles of North Carolina Central.
NC Central is reigning MEAC tournament champion for the last three years heading on as the automatic bid to the NCAAs. There they have played in the First Four the last three years against a fellow 16 seed...and never won. They are coming off a 18-16 season where they lost to Nicholls and split a pair of games with McNeese. However, they are loaded with upperclassmen. Following the JUCO recruitment model, they have 8 juniors on their team. This is the kind of team that you don't know what you've got until you play. They are led by senior guard Randy Miller (11) and junior point Jordan Perkins will keep consistent the offensive flow.
The Jacks will need to be much stronger on defense against the Eagles than they were on Wednesday night. Offensive rhythm while always important will not be as critical as getting the defense back to the kind of levels that helped the 2017-18 season be such a success.
Who's going to have the biggest improvement from game one to game two? Expect to see constant rotation again with 9 to 10 guys seeing double digit minutes. If Kensmil can have a rebounding night like last time, chances are high that SFA wins this one. If not, this could devolve into a matchup between two JUCO street ball teams.
See you early Saturday. Axe 'em!
