SFA leads the series 14-11 and 8-2 in the last 10 meetings against the Wildcats, with the Jacks winning 5 of the last 6, however are 4-7 on the road in Abilene.

With the FBS money games out of the way for both programs, we get ready for a good ole nationally ranked rivalry game matchup with the defending UAC Conference Champions Wildcats of Abilene Christian.

Head Coach Keith Patterson returns for this his 4th season at ACU where he has enjoyed immediate success in Abilene.

Patterson is 1-2 against the Lumberjacks and looks to even things up with his senior QB #4 Stone Earle, at the helm, in the new scheme of things, orchestrated by new offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.

The 6-0; 215 senior Marshall transfer QB out of Birdville High in Fort Worth, completed 13 passes for 140 yards with 1 INT against Tulsa Saturday night. And much like SFA QB Vidlak at Houston, Earle spent most of the night scrambling, being sacked 5 times.

Overall the Wildcats managed 260 total yards (120 rushing and 140 passing) and a rushing TD averaging 5 yards a play off of 53 plays against the Golden Hurricanes.

Defensively ACU gave up just shy of 500 yards and 4 TD's (236 passing with 2 TD's and 263 rushing with 2 TD's) 7.33 yards a play on 68 total plays for a very balanced Tulsa attack.

Not much more to say as it is difficult to gage where these two teams currently stand after both teams started the season with FBS level competition with both offenses struggling against the speed that comes with that level. That perspective will change dramatically after Saturday night in West Texas.

With a solid road win against a Top 20 team like ACU, would do wonders for SFA in the national spotlight and the playoffs, and most likely catapult the Jacks into the Top 15, something that has not happened since 2011.

Great write up.

I think we have a really good chance to take advantage of ACU's defense in this one. Our playmakers will actually be able to create space against the Wildcats and Vidlak should have more than 2 seconds to throw the ball.

Defensively, it's time for Bobino and Thomas to feast on what looks like a pretty porous offensive line.

The road game and, to some, rivalry factor will be there, but our guys should be focused and ready to get back in the win column.

ITS A TOP 25 GAMEDAY FOLKS!!!

This might not for sure be a must win, but it definitely feels like it. We have a weak non conference schedule outside of this game, and a win today would be massive for the implications in late November/early December.

SFA by all measures should take care of business. ACU's top 25 ranking is based on the 2024 Wildcats, who are all but a memory. SFA is coming in with a red hot defense and an offense looking to pick up where the 2024 Jacks left off.

Vidlak needs to get back to the Vidlak we saw a year ago.

I would wager we have a better defense than Tulsa, who shut down ACU last week, our offense just needs to step onto the field and play like the offense we know we have.

It's 5:38 in the morning and I cannot wait for some SFA football! Hopefully they did a maintenance check on those purple lights, because those suckers are gonna be lighting the way back home for our boys in purple after East Texas conquers West Texas!

Well, I didn't see the announcers but so far the camera work is very subpar for ACU. They have a great Communications/broadcasting etc program there but off the mark tonight so far.

We've run this package before. Rutherford is a better runner so he's better for designed QB runs.
