Great stop by the D there.
Southard has impressed on D. Effort is there for sure.

Don't blame Carhel on that one. Vidlak wanted to run a few more plays.

Honestly we are seeing what we usually see when we play an FBS team. Likely a very limited selection of offensive plays to keep it simple. Defense looking good but on the field a lot.
Make it through the 2nd half, keep injuries to a minimum and get ready for the actual season which starts next week,

Ok, please feel free to apply that to whomever orchestrated the final plays, lol.

I was more reading Vidlak facial expressions on the last plays lol.

Hit their star TE in the knee. Could be done for the season from one play. Edit: looks like he can walk off, but that's how quick things can change for a season.

Just a good throw right there. Can't complain.

If they wanna sit Sammy the rest of the game, I'm for it.

He's gonna get killed and we've got a long season ahead.

Pretty happy with the Defense overall tonight----but the absolute zero from the offense has been awful.

Although I expect the drop back to FCS will help our offense, if the O Line doesn't get better at protection then we got problems.

I think OLine is fine. Its still holding strong somewhat with a P4 DLine. Its just really hard to give Vidlak anything with 3 seconds max.

Wondering if switching rosters in the fourth will break the game open one way or another.

So, go for it on your own 28? I understand 24-0, but...

This is a pure no need to overreact game. We didn't get boat raced, at least not in the way we could've been.

We were supposed to lose by a lot. If we won, that's great. But this is not a surprise. We will bounce back next week and take out a tremendous amount of anger on some Wildcats.

This hasn't been the worse P5/P4 game weve played. Ill gladly take 0-27.

However I dont trust Gavin to throw the ball further than 10 yards lol.

If it makes anyone feel better, UCA got absolutely destroyed by their P4 opponent 61-6.

Could've been much worse than it ended up being. Our guys didn't quit. Offensively we looked very overmatched, but we won't play a defense even half that good all year, even in the playoffs. I think we did as well as we could've with the mistakes.

Gotta dust off and get back on the field, because next week we have a tough, top 25 ACU team that'll be looking for a home win.

Offense. Puke vomit

Just couldn't seem to crack the code with UOFH secondary. They played us very tight.

We just couldn't put enough weapons in place on offense . I felt pretty positive about the play overall. Defense is very mature. Didn't make any huge mistakes and our coverage corners played well against a P4 opponent. Offensive line has to give Vidlak more time. And open up a few holes. Our running back room has plenty of quality.

I agree on the SFA defense (8 tackles for a loss and a sack) and I look forward to seeing them dominate in the FCS ranks and the SLC.

Overall, I think the biggest diferrence in the two teams was speed. That may not have been easy to see if you were watching via the video stream, but it was pretty clear when watching the whole field in person. Our guys were having no success in creating any space. Cudos to UH's DBs.

Another positive was the number of negative plays that UH's offense had. There must have been at least a dozen or more.

A back breaker was when the UH QB turned a broken play into a 40 yard run in the first half. The Jacks had them stopped cold before that. For all the hype that the Aggie-turned Cougar QB has been getting in the Houston media, I thought he was pretty average.

And Bugs Mortimer saw lots of playing time. It's obvious the coaches see him as a weapon on returns and receiving. Again, UH's speed neutralized him, but he'll open some eyes once FCS play starts.

The biggest awakenings I saw were the play at the CB2 spot from Michael Patterson III and the little play Gavin Rutherford got near the end of the game. I'm sure the Jacks will have the offensive power we're used to from last year against ACU. The crew knows the importance of next Saturday in the chance of an at-large if they don't win the league.

Rough game last night, only because I knew some of us on the forum thought we had a legit shot. Houston's D-Line had other ideas. I personally think their defensive front won the game. Sam looked extremely uneasy back there, and I can't blame him. I'm not gonna be upset with our O-Line because that's the major difference between FCS & a Power 4 school; the trenches will always favor the bigger school.

Overall, the defense had a strong showing. If they paired that with a few more 3rd down stops, I'd say they had a stellar performance.

I appreciate the chat not overreacting to a loss against a Big12 school. Unfortunately, we are supposed to lose those games. Learn from it & I hope the offense is ready to go next week vs ACU.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think it was fair to think we had a shot, and honestly I massively underestimated how much better UH's defense was from a year ago. You're right, they were very, very fast. We had maybe 3 plays where a receiver got open past 10 yards and one was a dropped pass, one was overthrown because Vidlak was getting sacked while throwing it, and one was a huge pass from Rutherford against the backup defense.

Defensively ACU is gonna have fits trying to move the ball against us. Especially against the pass, we will be hard to gets points on.

Offense will be fine. Vidlak was pressured all night, but we will not face another team like that all year, even in the playoffs. I'm comfortable saying we should win any other game left on our schedule, and any games we drop will be one of those head scratchers where we should have won.

And now most importantly, we came out to it healthy, and gained $400,000. Now let's go 11-1, storm our way into the playoffs.

You saw exactly what I did. WR's weren't able to get any separation from the DB's. They were just bigger and faster on the edges for the most part and we didn't have an answer.

It appeared the game plan was to get the ball to the WR's outside and let our best group make plays. Unfortunately, UH's best group on the field was their secondary and they shut us down. If I remember correctly, we only attempted 1 run play on the first 3 or 4 drives and that was our first play on our first drive. We didn't even try to run the ball much early.

I honestly thought the Oline played pretty well against a B12 Dline. Pass pro held up well for the most part. They got to our QB more in the 3rd qtr than they did in the first half. Their Dline staring stunting/slanting and they blitzed more to create pressure. UH just took us out of our game plan and we struggled to find an answer. Not surprised at all.

Theres not much margin for error when playing an P4 team and we needed some breaks to go our way. We unfortunately just didn't get any breaks. Penalty hurt us and ended our first drive. Dropped pass across the middle ended our 2nd drive. DPI on 3rd and long from their own 15 yd line extended their longest scoring drive. A few of those go our way and maybe it's a closer game.

I'm positive we will look like a different team next Saturday. There's more to meets the eye than what we saw from our offense this game. We have some nice playmakers. I'm excited about the opportunity this team has to be really good.
