With fall in the air, (wishful thinking) it will be called the game of Austin, as your Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin, open up UAC play with the Governors of Austin Peay.
The Govs are coming off an impressive 63-3 victory over ETSU in Clarksville, where G/Sr. #12 QB Mike DiLiello 6-1; 215 gave the game of his career, completeing 37 passes (80.4%) for 441 yards and 5 TD's 0 INT's, while also scoring a TD on the ground.
Last week against the #9 Tennessee Vols, DiLiello completed 29 passes (74.4%) with 296 total yards and a score in Knoxville.
To say the least DiLiello is a gamer and you can expect plenty of stacked sets, zone reads, and short route set-ups for that long open wheel route for the score.
The defense is lead by a solid linebacker corp with junior #4 LB Sam Howard 6-2; 220 who leads the team with 31 tackles and 2.5 TFL, and graduate senior #8 LB Tyler Long 5-11; 229 with 29 tackles, and 1.5 TFL.
In the secondary look for sophomore DB #13 Jevon McIver Jr. 6-1; 177 who has 10 tackles 2 BU and 1 INT.
As a team the Governor's offense scores 33 points a game, rushes for 96 yards, while passing for 305 per game.
On defense Austin Peay gives up per game 196 yards on the ground and 190 through the air.
3rd year Head Coach Scotty "Chase The Lion" Walden is the red flash on steroids, and no doubt will have his troops pumped up and ready to rumble in the pineywood jungle.
The Lion, that's SFA, a real cool cat with a new determination in the execution of the play, and a focused discipline for the game.
If the Lumberjacks can continue this methodology, let it be known Saturday that SFA is for real, and the new favorite to win the UAC.
