I thought #2 started for SFA but could be wrong I was just getting settled in.

And if the official scorer is as bad as these announcers................

Vidal is a great runner but just like last season our defense seems to leave huge holes right at the line that get exploited by the offense. Just like last year, there were too many running plays were no Jack touched the runner til he had 20-30 yards behind him.

The color guy on the ESPN stream is sickening.

I actually think our defense looks a lot more like the 2021 defense. Very high risk high reward. Lots of exotic blitz packages that either go for a loss or allow big plays. Once we play down to our level if these guys play like this, our defense will be a force to be reckoned with.

This slip screens aren't quite as effective when you don't have an NFL receiver on the receiving end.

Gonna have to mix up the passing game to get more down the field.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hope you are correct. I liked our defense that mixed in the blitzes and changed things up. I put much more emphasis on FCS games so will be anxious to see how we perform the next couple of outings. That will give us a real idea of how we will fare in conference action.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Completely agree Master. We go to those flanker screens way too often in my book. Would like to see us go for more throws across the middle.

Maurer threw the INT. So it's been him. Announcers are clueless, the called us the Lumberjackets at one point.

The depth of the roster is showing now. Unfortunate. But I am now more fired up than ever for us when we play back to our level. I think this team is very solid.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Okay thanks. I heard Weeks but should have figured it out since it was about the 4th series before they said Maurer.
So I withdraw my negative comment about pulling Weeks so quickly.
MasterAxe

So…it's exactly the same offense.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well now here is something that needs work. 3 offensive possessions in 2nd half and have done absolutely nothing. Not even a first down I don't believe. Can't have that many empty possessions when we get back to FCS play. With the faster moving time clock now, each possession becomes more important. 3 and outs will do you in.

Until our play caller gets aggressive, it's gonna be a hard time.
SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Really surprised we haven't seen designed QB runs for Maurer.
SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A couple of great throws by Maurer dropped. Can't have that.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Some truth in that Hardtruth but I don't figure they go into a money game with a fully open playbook.
That said I have had many a problem with the OC overusing the same plays again and again. They do need to expand the offensive playbook. In the past we have been too predictable in play calling.
Hardtruth
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Never said open the play book. Just want the play calls to be something down field not a dive or a screen.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Wimbley and Williams stay healthy, I like our outlook at RB this year.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well not a bad performance tonight as money games go. A few good spots, forced some turnovers, kept playing for 60. As always, plenty to work on both sides of the ball. Never like to put too much concern into these $$ games but starting next week back at FCS level really want to see us start putting things together, get away from predictable play calling and work on defense schemes to stop allowing gaping holes at LOS and rein in the rushing yardage allowed. Certainly have the chance to make some noise in the new United whatever conference.

At practice this week: Tackling drills, tackling drills, tackling drills!

I thought the offense was decent. The D-line and linebackers were our weaknesses. Very poor tackling!

Overall though, a pretty good start to the season against a strong team on the road.
MasterAxe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
18 completions for 136 yards

7.5 yards/completion.

Gotta push the ball downfield. Don't have Xavier anymore to turn 1 yard passes into big gainers.
SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
And Maurer can sling it. Let him cook, I think we have ourselves a solid down field passing attack.
SFASawmillGuy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Our D-Line was actually really good. Tackling is something that needs to improve but a lot of it was just how good Troy is. That RB is a beast and shrugged off a lot of hits that would knock the heck out of some FCS backs.
BigJack85
How long do you want to ignore this user?
This team looks better than last year's edition in almost every respect. Sans Mr. Gipson.

We have some real possibilities. Maybe we'll develop some receivers vs Alcorn. If we can pull a solid win vs Alcorn, I'll be about ready to fully buy in.

100%. This team needs a couple of solid receiving threats. Get that covered and we have some real upside.
Ljacks&Longnecks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree on receivers. We may well have some but need to throw the ball downfield more. Our flanker screens are way too predictable.

I totally disagree about our D-line. True, their RB was great, but he had huge holes to run through. And our LB's were usually AOL after he broke through.

I'm a little concerned with Campos doing kickoff duty. Not from his kicking obviously but I wouldn't want to see Campos get injured on a kickoff return or a cheap shot by someone. He is too valuable a weapon.

Agreed. Surely one of our freshmen kickers can make it to the endzone.

I agree. Other than a couple of "opening day jitters" jitters plays, we generally looked solid. Especially that O-Line. We looked solid in the running game. Passing game needs work.

I'm optimistic. If we can get a little of mojo going vs Alcorn, who knows.
SFAXE93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm real excited from what I saw of the Lumberjacks.

Yes, the run defense needs some work, but the OL and the RB's will dominate some games this season.

The secondary is solid, Olatunji is a beast up the middle, Luke Watson and Jermaine Brown are punishers at LB.

If SFA stays healthy, this team is going to make a run.
