That's definitely it. You have 18-19 year old kids who are used to defending other high school kids defending future NFL wide outs. It's just a mismatch.

Self is running for his life. The O-Line has been terrible tonight. Hate to be that critical, but it's the truth.

P5 kickers make about 62% of their field goal attempts between 40-45 yards. P5.

Have to say, I think Self is looking much better this year. Still the occasional mistake or bad throw and still at times lack of help from O line has him getting jumpy or hurrying a throw more than needed but considering that we are playing FBS teams so far I feel like his game has improved. Perhaps the next 4-5 games vs Div2 and or own FCS level opponents we will see how he and team perform.
If Self continues to step up his game than 2021 could be a great year for him and SFA.

I think it's just because it's SMU. They weren't awful in the first two games. SMU is just a different animal. I said they'd probably score about 50, but I certainly didn't expect their defense to be so potent too.

SMU has given up a fair amount of yardage on the ground in their first 2 games. I think a healthy Ward and McGowen would have given us more strength and options tonight in play calling and maybe time of possession which would have been our best game plan. That said SMU is much more athletic and talented as a FBS team should be so the outcome was never really in doubt but without Ward and McGowan we have even less arrows in the quiver to fire.

FYI -UTEP beat ULM, UTEP is now 3-1.

I agree with you. I think SMU wins the AAC this year if they play this way the whole season. As you say, our O-Line is definitely playing a different animal tonight. They actually played fairly well vs. UTEP and UTSA. Stating the obvious: SMU is worlds better than either of those two teams in all phases of the game, not just the O-Line.

Our next two opponents are playing with Angelo State up on West Texas 14-10, late third quarter.

Much different expectations next 2 weeks than tonight.
