According to the San Antonio Express-News, billionaire Red McCombs is encouraging the Board of Trustees of UIW (to which McCombs is a major donor) to hire Art Briles as the head coach of the Cardinals, replacing the fired Larry Kennan. McCombs says that the baggage that Briles carries is a "bunch of baloney... and a bunch of garbage". UIW administration has stated that they are not considering Briles for the position.

I'm glad UIW has some sense. I'd move to strike them from the conference if they hired Briles. I thought the Big 12 should have done the same with Baylor.

Really surprised they were able to make that hire. I don't see much upside in any coaching positions there. Very little chance of success there in any sport.
